Ike, more times than not. I might have been tempted to say Ortiz before seeing the Paolo Rosi fight, where Paolo had Ortiz in quite a bit of bother when he went for broke and bombed on him. I can see Ike doing the same, and more effectively. I won't write off Ortiz though, a great technician and ring general, from outpointing Ike if they had a few fights.
I think we did this not long ago...I picked Ortiz. BUT I'm going to change my mind this time...While Ortiz is very capable of winning this, and would post a win in a series, I like Williams to eventually catch Ortiz.
Very, very tough to say...so I'll leave it at this. I think if Williams were able to catch Ortiz like a Rossi (which Sweet Scientist alluded to) or an Elorde reportedly did in their first fight, Ortiz would have a harder time surviving against Williams. But tbh, I can't go any further than that...I'd still have to say decision, but with Williams winning his rounds more convincingly than Ortiz...Mainly due to his ability (IMO) to hurt Ortiz. What do you think? If Ortiz stays on his feet by the end...is he your favorite to win it?
I think Ortiz wins this more often than not. Ike is in with a very good chance. Kind of like a 60-40 in favour of Ortiz. Good match-up though.
I'd favor him narrowly, most likely. I think Ortiz is just as capable of hurting Williams as vice versa, as well, so I don't think I'd rely on a "one shot is all it takes" type analysis for either man. I think Ortiz's edge in versatility, primarily off the backfoot, would see him edge a close decision. Williams was never the quickest on his feet, and I don't see any edges he holds over Ortiz in a technical sense.
Basically I agree with everything you've written...except I'll take Williams albeit narrowly. Ortiz's ability to box off the backfoot would serve him very well in this fight...and I could see Ortiz winning this type of fight. One decided edge I'd give Williams though is power and his ability to fire off very short compact hooks and crosses with excellent leverage on each shot, and he can get a barrage off very quickly and he had a knack for punching with opponents while they opened up...I think Williams can find him when Ortiz positions himself to go the body...So while I'd give Ortiz the edge at longer range, I'd give Williams the edge on mid range and inside. Ortiz usually (generally speaking) operates on being able to wear an opponent down, then taking over down the stretch of a fight...I think Williams somewhat takes this from his equation because he would be able to threaten Ortiz more than visa versa during the exchanges and it would force him to fight off the backfoot (which he can do) but more than he would really want to...becasue it would take a facet of his usual game away. It is close...but Williams for me.
