TS thanks for this video of the best LW I ever saw Ike Williams ringside. Part of your clip is the fight I saw in Philly, July 12,1948 when Ike Williams kod the fading Beau Jack, nearly killing Beau Jack until the referee stopped the fight with Beau Jack out on his feet...Ike Williams [uncuffed] was just under Ray Robinson at Ike's best...

    Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah there's a few parts in the video where he throws his combinations a bit like Robinson did.

That must have been brutal to watch, it's hard enough watching on old black and white film.

Beau Jack once said regarding the matter:

"I'm Beau Jack and to beat me you have to kill me where I stand."

Yes Beau Jack was a WARRIOR, that's for sure. Jack sold out MSG SEVEN times in one year, for a good reason. Beau Jack by the time of the Williams fight, was fighting for 8 tough years and had lost his quickness, but soon after this beating he took from Ike Williams, Beau Jack flattened Englands
great LW puncher Eric Boone in 3 rds...Cheers...

Yeah I've always appreciate Ike's ability though he was decades before my time. All the fight historians heap glowing praise on the guy, saying Chavez and Duran wouldn't have lasted more than four rounds apiece with him (I'm skeptical but that's still says something about Ike.)

Apparently he admitted to throwing a fight, and he claims he put forth less than his best on several occasions, one of the unfortunate consequences of his relationship with Palermo.

No-one takes out Duran or Chavez in 4 rounds at Lightweight IMO. Too tough, and Duran too good defensively.

I agree completely. I would favor both over Williams myself. I was just pointing out that he was thought of so highly. I would pick him over plenty of other great fighters though.

Great video! Great fboxer and great music. Also 100% of it was acatule boxing as oposed to most hilight vids that your lucky to get 50% boxing.

Williams is one of my all time favrotes. While he gets the cridit he deserves for being a puncher, he's an underrated boxer. I consider him a lightweight Joe Louis. Great keeping distance and picking his spots. Also make one mistake against Williams and your night is going to be very short. Other than Leonard, Whitaker and Mayweather I would pick Williams over every lightweight. This includs the likes of Gans, Duran and Mosley.

To be honest there wasn't much on him other than boxing so I didn't really have a choice.

Thanks for the comments though, glad you enjoyed the video.

Great vid. Wish there was more Williams footage but am appreciative to enjoy the footage available of this great fighter. One of the top LWs of all time.
