Ike Williams Power?

I doubt it. Remember his record of knock outs may not tell us the entire truth. He had to throw some fights and perhaps carry some fighters.
Beau Jack said Williams had a punch. I believe Basillio may have said something along the lines of being hit harder by Ike than anyone. I don't recall the exact quote.

 

Yes. Even though he can punch very hard, it still tends to get overrated

And in another interview (with Mike Wallace) he said Sugar Ray Robinson is the hardest puncher:

WALLACE: How does Ray rate with other men you've fought, Carmen?

BASILIO: He's a great fighter. Probably the hardest puncher that I ever fought, and undoubtedly gave me the toughest fight that I ever had.

All I can say about Ike Williams was the knockout of Beau Jack was the more brutal stoppages I can remember watching.

Ok. I recall reading something different in a book years back. Williams power had made an impression on Carmen Basillio I'm sure of that.

 

We don't how many fights he had cuffs on. Ike Williams was abused and controlled by the Mob. I believe he ended up broke. He had to make certain agreements. Just sayin his record alone could be deceiving.

 

I'm just sayin' overrated or not, he still punches damn hard regardless.

Pretty technician too. Quick jab, set up his opponents. The man stopped Bob Montgomery.

 

When you watch him fight, you can tell by the way he throws his punches that he hit hard.

 

I think you're correct. I have that book. I think he did tout Ike's power very high, and I've also heard him say Robinson was the greatest puncher he ever fought.
