That's a rough call. I don't think I've seen enough Williams to make a pick with confidence. My tentative answer is that Ortiz is versatile enough to outbox Ike and strong enough to not be manhandled.
Very tough call as these were two of the best. I'm going to give Ortiz the slight edge. By the time he was 30 Williams lost a number of fights while Ortiz was still winning against the likes of a Sugar Ramos, Ismael Laguna, and Johnny Bizarro. Ortiz only had 7 losses in his career and at least a couple of these were questionable decisions by the judges. His technical skills and conditioning were among the best in the history of the sport.
Great match-up. I will take Ortiz. He was the more consistent performer at the higher level who didn't seem to have a book written on how to beat him. I think he could exploit the few holes in Williams' game, notably through sharp counters, educated footwork and when necessary activity. I will definitely think more on this.
