Manassa, have you read the Williams chapter in "In This Corner" by Peter Heller? Really, really interesting.

i agree. based on what documentation i had, i rated him as the second best lightweight ever for a time (like my opinion means ****)

athletically, he might be the 2nd best fighter i've ever seen

    Can't remember :huh:lol:

I've bought/read/skimmed so many boxing books, most of which I don't know the names of. I tend to be drawn towards anything with a single mention of Williams or Hagler, so probably.

If you haven't, it's an amazing book, the best I've read about boxing. Each chapter begins with a little bio about the fighter the chapter is based on, and then the rest of it is just them speaking, without any editing or anything. If a fighter speaks with poor grammar, they print it that way. They copy their spoken sentence structure word for word. Really cool way to approach it, gives you a much better mental picture.

Williams comes across as an unusually erudite, well-spoken guy, and he lays it all out there. Everything about his career. Facinating read.

So it took me till now to pick up on Shommel's trollonicity. I blame it on my cold and my NyQuil-dulled senses.

    He's probably an alias.

Been on here for years and always starts the same sort of vaguely ridiculous/idiotic threads while barely contributing to them, or posting more than a line or two.HEctor camacho vs Jake Lamotta etc...

It doesn't sound familiar, I'll have to give it a go.

Here's one for you: The Big Punchers by Reg Gutteridge. Written in '83 I think when Hagler was considered near invincible, so he gets a mention as does Robinson, Duran, Louis and so on. I think it's quite rare but it's my favourite.

Me not knowing that is akin to not knowing your step kid's name. Or something.
