Burt Bienstock, who can no longer post here due to his age and illness, saw Ike in his prime and rated him the greatest lightweight he had even seen including Roberto. Just thought his two cents should be remembered in this.

Too close to call this one. Williams fought in a vicious era of Lightweights. Perhaps the best era. He lost a few but I believe he proved he was the creme of the crop at 135.

At.135 Duran was a hardly civilized weapon but not just blunt force. He had precision, he had finesse.

I don't know who has the edge in quickness here. If there is an edge thats the key.

We are all learning almost daily here mate. The losses and records from back then do have to be scoured thru with a fine tooth comb of course.

No disrespect to Ike, an great fighter but Duran was even better. Too fast , too strong, too much over all game.

Ike had a Helluva career and achieved greatness despite being used and ripped off by the mob that ran boxing. IDK how he did it. They took most of his $. He wasn't the only one.

I don't know, I use to message with Burt about boxing and life and I wish now that I had exchanged phone numbers so that I'd be able to check up on him now.

    Bump

I think Ike gives Duran serious trouble at lightweight, although I would be more confident in a close Duran decision.

Ike Williams was a bad man.
