August twenty-third in Lagos, Nigeria. 12 rounds scheduled at heavyweight. "Ike" will be competing for the first time in this millennium/century - last seen in the prize ring in 1999 stopping Chris Byrd and leaving the sport undefeated with a mysterious aura when he began his 16 year prison sentence. "Danny" also debuted in the mid nineties but has fought continuously since - albeit with compounded diminishing returns, to say the least (he's just 21-29 in his last fifty bouts dating to Skelton I almost two full decades ago). Both men at 52 years old, with the Jamaican descent Brit an inch taller and having two inches of reach on the Nigerian.
Tough one to call innit? 99.99% of times you'd call favoring a 20-0 (15) guy over a 55-33 (42...but stopped 17x) guy a no-brainer. Usually, though, the "unbeaten prospect" isn't coming off a 26½ year layoff. Then again, Williams is far fresher and more active, but...everybody was saying he was shot to absolute hell and begging him to retire ages ago...
The prime Ike that fought David Tua smashes the prime Danny that upset Mike Tyson - of that I've no doubt. Problem is, we have zero idea what the hell a 2025 version of Ibeabuchi is gonna be like until he steps in the ring.
I am not convinced this will happen, but I would think Ike. Danny has taken enormous amounts of punishment over the years.
