I really didn't think Canelo would have survived the final bell. I think he definitely fought GGG very well and had a much better performance then expected.

It wasn't a draw, it was a clear 8-4 fight for GGG. But Canelo should hang his head high. He was able to take 4 rounds against GGG and not get knocked down by one of the greatest middleweights ever.

Do you also believe in the tooth fairy?
come on guy, the whole fight and promotion stunk from top to bottom!
How hard do you think ggg was going....55%
Did you see him rip one shot with conviction? i didnt!
    8-4 or 9-3 was accurate
we saw the same fight. I just thought ggg was coasting. Ive seen alot of ggg aswell and everything on canelo.

canelo did not look good. underwhelming middleweight champion. that draw allows dlh to milk canelo even more now. look for some jr welterweights to face canelo next.

The only thing that surprised me was Canelos tactics, I thought Canelo gave up far too much ground, was far too negative, he simply didn't do enough.

He did land some solid shots and took a few solid shots but he didn't win the fight.

If you're a real Mexican (and Canelo bangs on about it) then what Canelo did last night was "run" and "survive".

Agree was impressed with canelo last night. Considering the stamina tanks his achilles heel...he fought perfectly. Hes really developed the last few years. Sceptical thats hes doing it on a level playing field but he has improved a lot over the last few years.

Think golovkin couldnt get his work off cause these guys are making him a bit hesitant. Hes not commiting to his punches the same as he did cause hes got one eye on whats coming back. Canelo was punching hard last night.

If he did have a stamina tank i say he would have won the toe to toe battle. He was a unit in their last night. Without the stamina tank he had to avoid the toe to toe to an extent and fight in patches. Made them rounds hard to score at times.

I've always seen Canelo as a good to very good, but not great fighter and yesterday didn't really change things.

He's pretty technically sound, nice combinations, above average hand speed, good chin, and has a solid defense, but his weaknesses prevent him from reaching a higher level. Modest power (particularly at this weight), so-so stamina, slow feet.

Popular fighter who brings in a lot of fans, but clearly a level down in caliber from the previous generation of the top Mexican boxers (JMM/Morales/MAB).

To paraphrase Manny Steward, the fight went as I predicted.....for 8 or 9 rounds. I expected GGG to step it up late and score a stoppage, or a KD, but he didn't close the show well. And it seemed there for the taking, particularly the 11th, Canelo was looking very tired and retreating, and I expected GGG to add a little exclamation point to things.

But GGG just looked slow and sloppy in his attack.

I still scored in for GGG, and think you have to be pretty damn generous to Canelo to have it even. I won't knock GGG too much as I felt he won. But just keeping on tune with the OP, neither guy surprised me much except for GGG closing so show, and Canelo perhaps looking a tad bit sharper defensively and overall than I expected.

meh! After all that sht he talked about not effing around and going on and on about fighting like a mexican and Oscar going on and on about how these guys were going to fight and how not like a few weeks ago this was a real fight Canelo went in there and spent quite a bit of time running away. even his own countrymen booed him. not a good look.

Anyone know what the fan response is in Mexico?

It's too bad the US doesn't have the same sort of passionate boxing fanbase as Mexico or Puerto Rico.

I thought Alvarez did better than expected as well. I'm not surprised he was competitive with Golovkin, I just figured somewhere in the middle rounds Golovkin would stop him in a good close fight up to that point.

With Golovkin on the decline I think a rematch, especially if it gets pushed back to May or September of next year, is an even better and closer fight.
