calzaghe is threating on retiring hoping someone comes up with a large money offer. if someone said to him they would give him 12 million to fight hopkins in cardiff he would be grabbing at it.
I won't be the least bit surprised if Golden Boy makes and offer Calzaghe can't refuse. ODLH was beaten out of the picture leaving Shane and B-hop to carry the financial torch in the states for a little longer until the younger fighters grow a bit more.
Maybe. Given that Hopkins and Calzaghe is hardly a PPV mega money spinner, however, it's hard to see that they could pay Calzaghe enough to tempt him whilst still paying Hopkins and turning a profit, however.
True but GB doesn't have many options for super fights involving American fighters at the moment either.
nicely put i also heard there was (before the first fight and since roy joens has come out and mentioned it) the possibility calzaghe and jones would do two fights. No psychological oversion there i see. I especially like point number 1. Im sure ali wasn't on fraziers christmas card list and after the clear win in the first fight frazier didnt need to fight him again but because of the nature of ali and joes hatred for him it drove him on and made him take the rematches. The BS about calzaghe undertraining is BS he travelled half way across the world to the hatton mayweather fight to try and lure hopkins into a fight and it was his come out party to the US im sure he didnt take any chances its just excuses for his incompetency that night. I actually think we're more likely to get hopkins taylor III after hearing dibellas comments recently about being unable to secure an opponent for taylor that made sense (both financially and stature wise)
I actually intended to include Point 3 in my original post, but forgot when I got down to writing it. At the end of the fight Calzaghe was convinced he lost. He felt fortunate in getting the verdict. In his heart he felt beaten that night, and it was evident. Point 4 also, he flat out had to dig deeper than he ever expected against Hopkins, as he wasn't able to land cleanly, so he was trying to swing the judges on workrate. I barely even need to comment on the "no-rematch" mentality. It's a convenient safety blanket. Hell, he probably wouldn't even want the rematch if he had officially lost the fight. Oh, and beyond that, he's been in talks with the Roy Jones camp for a rematch of their umm... well, Roy Jones is shot, basically is my point. Seems to me there's more unsettled business against the man he has a Split Decision against. Edit: Oh, and Hopkins is 44, aged, and should surely make for easy multi-million dollar payday. Well, not so easy apparently.
Hopkins was more concerned with Roy Jones at that point. The only thing that was going to get Hopkins out of his Middleweight reign was a rematch against Jones.
Heard rumours that if he was to fight again it would be Glen Johnson. Marnoff- Imo he looked nervous because he was waitng to be robbed. Which he nearly was.
Honestly i say Calzaghe beats him even worse since he will know what to expect now and he will be out to silence Hopkins and everyone else
