The way you all support people is mind boggling. I can't imagine one American boxer let alone athlete that could draw an armada of fans anywhere in the world the way you guys support your heroes.

Not Lebron, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Shaq, A-Rod, none.....

    Thats completely unreal..

They're like a cult. They worship their stars/heros.

    Amazing.

It is kinda unreal. Even I, an Englishman, can't believe the support we show.

    you think that's impressive?

you should read up on the support our cricket teams gets abroad, especially when they go to australia, mind boggling. last winter the aussies stuffed us, the harder we got beat the louder our fans sung. the football fans are a mixed bunch, although much better behaved compared to past years.

Even Frank Bruno got big support when he appeared in vegas. realistically he had 0% chance of winning but fans paid to see the fight. Its the bright lights of vegas that attracts us. If this fight had been in a less glamorous location the numbers of travelling support would be way down.

I think it is down to two things

1 It's a small country. Therefore there is a culture of travelling to away games. If you live in NY you are not going to go en mass to LA to watch basketball on a wednesday night like we do here with the soccer.

2 Going overseas and taking over the place is sort of in our blood. The sun never set remember:good

Look at Kelly Pavlik he is a humble, down to earth, modest American fighter. Pavlik is very popular and well liked, imagine that!

Pavlik is not an ******* who is always telling everyone how great he is and wont STFU about it!! Pavlik doesn't show off in bling, bling, disrespect opponents, or have a large entourage of ' yes sirs' kissing his ass 24/7.

People have grown tired of the cocky, big mouthed American showboat, ******* persona.
Most American Boxer's are not popular because people just don't like them! It is that simple, people dont like Floyd because he is a *****.

Not an applicable example because as I mentioned, Tiger Woods isnt a big talker. Yet he doesn't have legions of American fans seeing him at the British Open or in Dubai.

Tim Duncan is easily one of hte best stars in the NBA and durng the Olympics no less there were more people booing the US team than supporting it.

Lets not make this its about the athletes personality because it isn't. Do you really believe if you want to make this boxing specific that even MEDIA calculating ***** Oscar Dela Hoya would have people coming over to watch him?? Of course not.

Regarding Floyd, Floyd is a smart guy in playing the bad guy but thats beside the point..

I do think culture and territory have a lot to do with it. I think the UK is about the size of Texas or California. That said, because the US is a larger country with more regional interest (college sports, pro sports, high school sports etc) people don't totally clamour to national figures.

Again though I still give props to the Brits for making the journey, spending the money, etc....
