At the same time though jec You know - I like the guy - But I would like him a lot more if this one thing didn't stop bugging me. How come - after chasing him for years - does he deride Hopkins as Popkins and the rest of the "old" jibes - See the article on the front page for the latest one in reference to the cold. Doesn't that just all add up to a loose loose situation: * should he decision him as most seem to think he will - He beats an old man, one he himself calls old - Now its obvious that Hopkins is a freak of nature, but in 50 years from now if someone looked at the record, they'd look at Hopkins and say - Oh he lost cause he was 43. * should he loose, he was beaten up by an old man. This sort of pressure to me plays into Hopkins hands - He will make this match all kinds of ugly, he will nulify the high output with every trick on either side of the rule book. I'm not saying Hopkins will win, I pick Calzaghe by UD - But I will not be suprised one bit if he looses to the crafty X...
Because Hopkins started the trash talk? If some one starts something like that you have to think, "If they think this will bother me, is that because it WOULD bother them?" You admit it is bugging you! Maybe Joe has it out for YOU! Maybe he believes Bhop knows what it takes to sell tickets in the states?
Joe's clearly having fun with it. He isn't a **** talker. Look at how he got along with Kessler. He doesn't need to get under a fighters' skin in an immature attempt to unnerve him and hope for an easier win by mentally unsettling people, he lets his hands do the talking.
Good point. Joe always gets a pass on calling pavlik out and then running down to the nursing home to pick a fight with Hopkins! No other fights had been made when Joe went after Hopkins. Taylor had not exercised his rematch option. No one knew who Pavlik's next opponent would be when Calzaghe went after Hopkins. Joe called Kelly out, and then went after hopkins instead. Now that Pavlik and Arum, and Cameron Dunkin, and Jack Leow have ALL announced Kelly's firm intentions to stay at 160, Calzaghe CLAIMS he wants to fight Pavlik at 168. Sounds real ****ing fishy to me!! Boo
I was kinda joking about Cal coming down to 160. I just watched the Kessler fight and the weight difference is just too great. I don't think either carries any fat into the ring. Pav would need time to add the extra muscle and that would keep him from defending his titles. Pav has plenty of room to add the muscle though. So, I don't see this happening now. That is why I posted earlier that if the actually stepped in the ring at 168 I think Pav would have a better chance.
I didn't think he would have a problem against taylor either. But he did. Pavlik is more 'stun and gun' when it comes to knockouts. Catch a guy and then work on the finish. I watched the Kessler fight yesterday. Getting the 'stun' would not be easy. Plus, Pavlik admitted he had trouble adjusting to Taylor during the middle rounds. That could be 'fatal' against Cal.
And what's so hilarious? Is Pavlik not predictable? Jab jab, right hand. Kessler tried that, it doesn't work, because Joe's jab is 500% better, and more importantly quicker Is he not defensively flawed?
Well, as I said in my post above yours, Pavlik admitted he had trouble adjusting for several rounds against Taylor. His double jab equaled hm getting hit. And the pundents wondered why he went away from it. In spite of what some one posted earlier, I don't think Cal has the handspeed of Taylor, but he has other ways to change it up.
