"I'll never let a white boy beat me!"...

I'm a fan of Hopkins, but this has to rank up there with one of the more stupid comments a fighter has made. B-Hop will look even more stupid if Pavlik beats him, as I think will be the case.

Of course, he will always be able to comfort himself with the thought that those "white boys" wouldn't have beaten him in his prime, a belief that is not at all unreasonable.

 

Meh this comment wasn't a big deal at all. Don't see why people made such a fuss out of it.

 

You said it man. This is boxing, and fighters have gotten away with saying much, much worse than that. A comment like this doesn't even make me blink twice.

 

You can't blame hopkins to much, white's pretty much sucked sence the 50's in the U.S.,,,,he just saw the european fighter as the same limted white fighter he see's an spars with in the U.S. gyms,,

 

'Nards comment reminded me of something that Alan Minter said in 1980. Just before he fought Hagler he said that "no black man will take my title", pretty stupid really and a good job that Hagler didn't hear the comment as instead of Minter being cut to shreds in 3, he would have been utterly destroyed in one. I wondered at the time that Hopkins made the statement whether he was taking the **** out of another British fighter (Calzaghe) by reminding them of Minters hubris.
