Stephen "Rifleman" Flemmi. The guy French from The Departed was molded after him. Flemmi went away to prison in 1994. Is the known killer of 15 people, probably more, Korean War veteran, and all around psychopath. The fighter was Dana Rosenblatt.
ah, no LOL but good guess because amazingly enough I met that guy "Frenchy" about 3 years ago...hes much older, looks harmless but one of the guys at the event (it was a party for my fighter, Mike Oliver) pointed him out and said hes a big boxing fan, looked harmless but they told me his history..definitely not harmless LOL...he wasnt the guy who picked me up in the car, though...I have never actually spoken to Frenchy...
I don't know man, I know you don't wanna drop names but Flemmi and Rosenblatt seem like the only possible answers. Flemmi is still incarcerated to this day, but I'm sure he still has a lot of pull, and one of the only people who could get away with saying that about Hagler.
Trust me, it wasnt that guy (Frenchy)...I think you are talking about the wrong guy anyway because the guy I met 4 years ago obviously isnt incercerated anymore...the only reason he (the guy who drove me) got away with saying what he said about Hagler was because I just didnt say anything...I had no idea who he was at the time, thats exactly why I'm saying that I am lucky I happened to decide not to say anything at that moment...
Why would Rosenblatt be in the mix of this anyway? Back then there were a lot of fighters in or around the area to spar with who had people behind them...
Not sure, I was only about 10 at the time, and grew up in Malden and left there about that time to move out to the Foxboro area. Just seemed like a logical choice, he was an up and comer during that period, was close enough in weight class to you also. I don't remember too many other fighters from that time period that were good prospects, certainly more in RI and CT I would have thought, and if the fighter was being backed by LCN, I don't see why the Patriarca family would have their investment out in Springfield, Holyoke, Worcester and not in the eastern part of the state closer to them in Boston and Providence. I think I am right on at least one if not both. Flemmi was a real piece of **** psychopath, but he was hugely into boxing, himself supposedly being a hell of a scrapper in the ring though I know he didn't fight in AM's or Pro's, and I think I remember their being issues between either Winter Hill Gang or the Patriarca Family and Hagler.
I actually never heard of the guy so...no, it wasnt him...also Dana was really just starting out back then more or less...there were rated guys to box with at that time, too...in CT, Massachusetts and R.I.
Yea, that's what I was saying, if I remember correctly CT and RI had more and better prospects than MA, and can't remember the name (joe, Italian last name) from Brockton about that time that was pretty decent. Richie LaMontagne would have been just starting out around then also. I don't know, just taking a shot in the dark.
Im a Boston guy but I'm only I was only a kid during Bulgers reign. Still, it was pretty well known that Whitey would recruit young boxers from Boston to work for him. The only PRO I can think of is John "Red" Shea. He was an enforcer for Bulger, he was a professional boxer for a short time. There were also some amateurs that worked for him.
I still cant believe that two years ago or so the feds gave him 20,000 when he got out of prison to start a new life. He confessed to murdering 20 people but because of his position he only got a few years. Upside down system we got here.
