I'll say it...Valuev is underrated.

I think people are way too harsh on the guy. For a big man, he has great stamina, comes into the ring in shape, has a good jab. For a guy who is 7'+, he has decent handspeed. He also has a good chin.

And while he's gotten a lot of close decisions...I wouldn't call any of them robberies. I thought he lost to Ruiz at least once, and probably Donald, but these were both very close fights.

Valuev has also a pretty good resume, overall.

Valuev has probably the best chin in boxing history. But he is very very slow. What kills in boxing is speed. This is important to be able to receive a punch and to give a punch. What Valuev can do is receiving punches.

lol please, Ruiz, Lyakovich, Donald, Chagaev, Bergeron, McCline aren't punchers at all. Harrison could probably take thier best shots

Lets see his chin vs one of the Klits

I think he is somewhat underrated, and unjustly bashed by many fans. A lot of it has to do with his appearance, imo. People call him a "freak" and stuff, that's just prejudiced.

Myself, I will always be grateful to Valuev for ending the disgrace of John Ruiz holding a title belt based on corruption and cheating. For that alone he deserves to be praised by all fans of boxing.

I think so,too! He is unjustly bashed by many fight fans as well as by many casual sport fans because of his appearance.
He for sure isnt a bum. A bum wouldnt have knocked out Vidoz as he did. A bum wouldnt have beaten Ruiz twice-admittingly,both encounters were close. A bum would not have been beaten Bidenko. A bum would not have won 50 out of 51 fights. A bum would not have lost a very close fight to Chagaev.
Lets be fair and give honour where honour is due: Valuev is better than many people give him credit for.
He is no future all time great nor will he be a long reigning champ who holds his belt for ages.
He is a behemoth with decent skills and a very humble and likeable human being.
We all know that he is no outstanding fighter. Both Klitschko brothers as well as Lewis will or would have kicked his ass big time.
There are some other names out there who are able to beat him as well.
Anyway! He has gone a long way-quite successfully so far.
Besides he was one of the fighters in the weirdest heavy weight fight I have ever seen.
Have never heard of another fighter at heavy weight who fought 2 rounds without a ref after he was officially declared the victor of a fight in the middle of mayhem and rage skating more than boxing in a ring which was covered by beer and other liquids threating by fans who went beserk.
His encounter with Sidon in a theatre in the Czech Republic's capital Praha was without any doubt the weirdest heavy weight in the history of modern pro boxing.

You're way too harsh on the big fella.

He's not an Ali or a Lewis, or even a Wlad.

But he's done well with what talents he has.

    He's polite and respectful.

And I hear he writes some nice poetry !

One of the more average world champs you'll ever see but he's not a bum. If he was such a bum he wouldn't even be competing with world class fighters, but he can. I respect that he is always in shape for 12 rounds unlike most heavyweights.

I doubt if a 7ft 320lb guy could ever be a great fighter or be particularly exciting. It's always going to look very slow.
