i commented on the knockout of michael sprott from audley harrison recently and no one really answered.

i think that punch was lethal but the technique was terrible. audley seemed to punch with the back of his hand.

I have previously see Berto being warned by the ref for jabbing with the back of his glove.

is the punch illegal? up to the referee's disgression? can someone shed some light on this for me

Yeah a backhand is an illegal shot but you will still see a few fighters use it. People describe them as 'flicking' jabs sometimes. Naz got called up on it a couple of times.

Hard to tell but it looked like the thumb side of the glove to me. It was a wild swing with nothing I would complain about if I was the ref.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the KO or the punch. Audlet hit Sprott with the knuckle of the glove which of course is perfectly legal. Additionally there was nothing wrong with Audleys technique. Audley threw a left hook from the southpaw stance. Unusual but nothing wrong with that at all.
