Mika "Finnish Rocky" Mielonen, a 43 year old novice and Helsinki native defending home turf here, first popped up on the radar thirteen months ago when he put his somewhat padded zero in the kitty against countryman and longtime world fringe contender Robert Helenius. Even well past his own sell-by date, "The Nordic Nightmare" dominated & stopped him in 3.

Gunnar Kolbeinn "The Ice Bear" Kristinsson is a relatively nubile 36, and boasts a surprisingly well-traveled 15-0 (9) record. Half of his bouts have taken place in Finland, most recently headlining a Liikuntahalli card this June in what originally was supposed to be this very match-up, but with Ukrainian-French veteran punching bag Pavlo Krolenko subbing in for Mielonen.

Olavi Hagert vs. Artjom Spatar, 6 rounds @ middleweight

 

The neatly coiffed and pomaded Hagert was a Finnish national amateur championship semifinalist and currently a 7-1 prospect.

Spatar, a former middling amateur in Estonia, is only 20 years old but has already logged 15 pro bouts - only four of them victories.

 

Eh...while Hagert is clearly better, he isn't exactly shining.

 

Reckon a top rope Frankensteiner would hurt like the Dickens.

 

I get that this is likely a confidence building tune-up for Hagert (he is coming off his first pro stumble, an upset loss to a Georgian gatekeeper named Irakli Jeranashvili with a dead even 14-14-1 record) but he won't be ready for a step up anytime soon if he can't win rounds more decisively against the likes of Spatar. Too much hesitating, too many shots taken while thinking out his next move.

 

Actually it'd be funny as hell if they had the antithesis of a lithe Scandinavian, like a fertility statue looking pitch-hued Hottentot Venus walk out.

 

Spatar landing plenty of lawn-sprinkler jabs on the outside, then ramming his shoulder into Hagert's chest and driving him into the ropes to stall. Might well have nicked a couple of these rounds.

 

Good effort down the stretch, both throwing desperately... bit wildly.
