Round 1 Liebenberg is drilling in 1-2s as Ramirez plants his feet, standing in and hooking with both hands sledging in wide. Ramirez gains some ground but Liebenberg tilts back and times his 1-2 down the pipe and working in the uppercut, hurting Ramirez and driving him back. Ramirez goes between the ropes, slumping. The ref gives him a count. Ramirez beats it. Ramirez swarms in with more wide hooks, still blinking dizzily and shaking off the cobwebs as he loads up. More 1-2s by Liebenberg, accurate. Ramirez charges into a neck-snapping jab and falters. Ramirez is hurt again, walloped into reverse by Liebenberg's 1-2 and uppercut and dumped on the seat of his trunks by the ropes. The ref gets to nine and waves his arms overhead. TKO1!
The Lion is a cool nickname and everything, and flows with his name phonetically, and certainly has the added quaintness of being a critter endemic to Africa... but um, I can't help but think... Your first name is already Ryno... :huh Get what I'm saying? It kind of seems a no-brain-er to me.
The Argentine commentators were dropping name like Matthysse, Maidana, and Martinez while conversing as they showed replays of the KO from different angles in slow motion... I kind of wish my Spanish was a bit less rusty (and, well, more learned in the first place) to know WTF that was about. What could they have been saying about them? How were those dudes relevant to poor Ramirez's situation? "Well, Gabriel, you've let your whole country down by failing to beat an undefeated puncher on the road. Screw you for not living up to quite the standards of your best p4p countrymen..." :?
Zak, I caught the names on the graphic this time! :happy The highlights they're showing are from last week's edition of "Boxeo Di Primera". It's of Marcelino Nicolas Lopez vs. Sergio Eduardo Gonzalez for the WBC Latino 135lb title. Lopez - as we just saw - knocked Gonzalez out in 9.
Makabu is out to...silence. I'm not sure if he really eschewed music or if TyC simply muted the venue audio while having their studio analysts give their final thoughts.
Anthems. Star Spangled Banner up first, orchestral recording. Fields shifts his weight, rocking side to side and clapping his gloves together, eyes half closed and mouthing along the words.
22-1 (16) vs. 14-1 (13) ...and both Eric "Danger" Fields and Ilunga "Junior" Makabu have real power; those aren't empty records. ...oh, and both their losses were by KO. :hey op
The judges hail from South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. :rofl That's, um - nice and diverse. Fields should get a fair shake if this somehow goes the distance :!: French ref.
