With this getting announced I can't imagine he would risk the Canelo fight by taking another fight before that.

Idk seems like a legit belt holder to me & challenge.

I remember Roy Jones Jr accomplishing a similar feat & the world riding his nuts for it.

well Canelo is the closest thing to Roy we have these days.

so enjoy it while we got it.

Actually that isn't a terrible shout; Ilunga Makabu and John Ruiz are probably comparable in terms of the size threat posed as well as p4p ability. (although RJJ was the older man with more years on the odometer when he moved up, sort of the opposite situation as here with Canelo being far nearer his prime than Junior)

Canelo though has had a longer pro career up to this point than Roy had when he moved up to HW and I think it's fair to say that Makabu is more dangerous as a puncher than John Ruiz was. If we're honest John Ruiz was known more for hugging than for punching.

Not to continue hair splitting on an offhand comparison, but RJJ had a high level amateur career during the time of his life that Canelo was racking up his first 20-30 fights against low/mid level pros in Mexico.

    It's kind of a wash.

Why are people complaining about this fight? He's moving up to fight at CW FFS. Just too many irrational Canelo haters here who will never give him an once of credit no matter what he does. If this was Josh Taylor who was doing something similar it would be seen as the greatest feat in the history of boxing. Why? Because everyone here loves him and most people here hate Canelo.

Stop the crap you little clown. Of course he's not old in terms of his age but considering his boxing career he IS old. 30 fights and some NASTY NASTY wars over the years where he took a ton of damage. And no, he started his career at 175 because it was his natural weight but he got a bit thicker over the years and moved up. He's not a natural Cruiserweight size-wise. He's clearly a Light Heavyweight. 6'0'' and weighed in between 190-193 in a lot of fights. Of course can't drop down to 175 at his age but still...he's clearly not a Cruiserweight. If you don't see that don't talk about boxing because you apparently don't have an idea about that stuff.

Just looking at the image (didn't click on the video), that is a weird, bulbous head. Like there's some swollen second head growing out of the upper-after portion behind the ear on the left side of his head. wtf is that?

Are we sure he will be 32 pounds bigger or we'll have another catchweight and rehydration clause?

Now Clenelos cheerleaders will suddenly care about CW, a division that many of them disregarded for years on here. This is very worrying - it's likely set up to move CW down to 190 and to legitimatize Bridgererweight as a division. Very worrying indeed.

None of these casual cheerleaders followed CW at all. Makabu has been in a ton of wars, and is definitely the easiest target for Clenelo at the weight(a consistent theme as Clenelo moves up in weight) calculated risk taking. If Makabu isn't too drained from the likely catchweight BS this could end up being an entertaining fight, but if it's happening it's happening for a reason. As others have pointed out - why wasn't Briedis the clear #1 at the weight selected?
