i hope that's true. sure, people fight for money but this is boxing and as you astutely pointed out, boxing fans want warriors and don't want to hear about you doing it for a cheque. a cheque which comes from us. a cheque that comes from our hard work. that's spitting on the people that pay your bills and he comes off ungrateful and pathetic for it. boxing has a long and splendid history of dignity and courage, more so than any other sport by far. by claiming to be the best of that sport but doing it only for the money and not to honour the tradition is a betrayal in the eyes of many

Floyd did what you wanted him to do at 130... When Floyd moved up in weight, he didn't want to fight contender after contender at 140 or 147...he wanted the best. Floyd did not start at 147...

when you go to work do you do it to the best truck unloader box stacker or whatever it is you do? or do you do it for a check?
Him saying hes the best is like you telling your boss your the best and you should get a raise in your evaluation. after each fight is like an evaluation for them

Fans can but Floyd takes it a bit too far. Thats why he needs 24/7 armed security guards. Obviously he is receiving death threats and thinks everyone is out to get him. The point is hes better off being quiet like Mosley than being loud but on the other hand it does make him some money.

So he makes money by being a loudmouth and obnoxious but he makes just as many enemies at the same time which means he has to spend a lot more money on security. Is it worth it?

Those two things are related to many (if not most). Money is the motivation for some people to be the best and others really just want to be the best. Two different types of personalities. The world would be a lot better place if everyone wanted to be the best at everything they did, but most people are not competitive like that by nature.

I would guess that 90% of people in this world are slaves to their wage and only work to support themselves and their families. 10% love their work. Do hamburger flippers care if they make the best burger? Very few do, I'm guessing.

    Why do lawyers become lawyers?

You could argue that fighting for the higest purses and being the best go hand in hand. In order for him to maximise his earnings he needs to be the best at what he does.

Yes we know he didn't start at 147, and yes we know how much of a beast he was in the lower classes. But it's 5 years since he's been a Welterweight, and in that time Shane Mosley is first legitimate and elite 147 guy he's about to face. Not that impressive when you look at the 147 guys Pacquiao has already taken on and beaten in 12 months (and he doesn't even belong in this division!!)

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that for a guy who's better than Robinson, Ali and Leonard, surely his resume of the past 5 years is not that impressive?

Who the hell is a truck unloader? Thats a bull**** job. Any real professional work requires that you try to be the best at your job. Say if you are Mayweathers security detail, he specifically said he will only hire the best and hes willing to pay for it. So whatever you do you want to be the best.

Well put and this is at the root of a lot of the hate towards Mayweather. Whether or not he intentionally plays this up, we may never know.

Yeah its crazy. Its like he comes on the boards and sees what pisses people off the most an then says it on 24/7. Maybe Shane can knock him into a lower income bracket?

Money motivates you if you don't have any money. If Mayweather and his family were living in the ghetto then I could understand him being motivated by money. He's not living in the ghetto anymore so how exactly can money motivate someone who lives in a goddamn mansion?!

If somebody already has enough money to survive the only thing left to do in life is to try to be the best. I don't even have money and I like to try to be the best just for legacy sake. Why wouldn't Mayweather?

90% are slaves to their wage? They did that to themselves. They choose professions which did not take advantage of their talents. They chose to work at McDonalds as a burger flipper rather than to go to cooking school and become a chef. Thats their own fault and they can blame themselves for not being ambitious.

This is not the same as the person who goes to cooking school to be a chef and who tries to be the best and just isn't. I think the majority of people try to be the best at something and find out that some people in this world were just born with the natural talent to do it and they aren't. Or they might have talent and meet someone who has more talent.

At the elite level of society it's about being the best. It's not about money because nobody is going to remember you for your money.

And thats the difference between a job and a profession. A profession is a lifestyle you adopt so that you can be the BEST at something and the money just comes with being the BEST. A job is just something you do to pay the bills.

Anybody can have a job. People living in prison have jobs. Nobody should be young and dream of getting a job. Life should never be about getting or finding a job, it should be about building a lifestyle and profession so that you can focus on being the best at some niche talent you have and get paid just like Mayweather is doing.
