Can the judge help the boxer to get up from a slip??? that was a little weird watching the ref helping Berto
I thought Collazo won the fight, but it was close but I dont think it was close enough to go either way, if it tilted one way Collazo should have gotten it, he did take the title it was the perfect game plan especially in the two rounds he took off to save up some juice for the last three rounds perfect plan especially at that work rate. I had a feeling last night when I was discussing this in the forum that Berto was going to be tested for some reason its almost always the fight that gets over looked, or no real media attention that is the one that turns out to be a great fight. Just had that feeling friday night and all day Saturday this was going to be a fun fight to watch. why wouldnt you feel that way, both guys are young, both guys dont make mega millions so it was the perfect formula to make for a great fight.
I had Callazo by the same score. The best part was Berto's Dad telling his son before the 12th he needed a KO, and then consoling his son at the end of the round knowing he had lost. I don't think the judges scored for the good body work that Callazo was hurting Berto with.
I thought Berto won by a point. I had him winning 114-113. I had a draw going into the 12th. Volume punching is a good way to fight when watching a fight, but I know that being ringside, the harder punches are what's scored by the judges. If you look at Dlh-Mosley II, who do we all think won? Dlh right? Many writers/critics pressrow were saying Shane won because he was landing the harder shots.
I didn't like that it was Berto who raised his glove and asked for help. It showed how tired he was and at the time I began to think that he might get stopped. I felt the same. The fight was exciting from start to finish and the action is why I love boxing. Collazo however didn't do himself any justice in a few of the middle rounds where he dropped his hands and became inactive for stretches. He probably was just taking a break from the heavy action but it could have looked to the judges that he was fatigued and was losing interest. That was one of the knocks I had with him going into the fight that he at times lacked prowess. None the less I had him comfortably ahead going into the 12th. Hopefully Berto gives him a deserved rematch. After the fight when Berto's pops was hugging and kissing him it was almost as though he was p repairing him for the let down. I got the feeling that Berto sensed that he had lost the fight and when the decision was announced, I found it telling that Berto reacted with such enthusiasm because he knew that he had lost.
I can understand this to an extent... Even though Berto may have been landing heavier punches, imo Callazo's punch volume to the body was hurting Berto more. Berto's harder punches were landing few and far between giving Callazo enough time to recover. Still Berto's dads reaction after the 12th was the most telling, he thought his son had lost. I plan on watching it again tonight to see if I missed something.
no I think the best part was Collazo's corner saying before the start of the 12th round "the only way you lose is by robbery" and then the 2 scores of 114-113 get posted. if Collazo's corner feels so strongly about the decision before the fight's even over why don't the cry babies protest (now that they got "robbed")? Beenie you say Collazo won 7-5 and going into the 12th you had him comfortably ahead .. what was your scorecard, as in who won what rounds .. since you already said 7-5 Luis. (for the record)
Honestly though I feel Collazo won the fight, I think a rematch Berto will prevail, he should have stayed on that body it seemed to me when he hit Lou to the body he did big damage, and in a rematch if I was Berto that is exactly where I am heading.
Nice analysis, talk about some irrelevant crap and then conclude with "ricky hatton still won that fight though" Your man was beaten fair and square. Little Fatton's 0 was still worth a lot back then, the only reason he was gifted the fight.
