After the first round KO and the next 2 rounds, Hopkins was in a good position for the points win. His movement was really good, and he was getting a few punches in there. What annoyed me was how he seemed to think it was enough to tie up Calzaghe right to the end, even though Calzaghe (and I give him credit for being smart here) managed to keep getting in a few punches in every round and stood his ground against Hopkins in the infighting. Hopkins was never really hurt (unless you count the low blows) and all he really had to do was to throw a few punches (his experience should tell him that the judges fall for any sort of punching, even if they're soft and on the gloves). He would have got the UD without any problems.
He managed to throw a few without any response. Should have thrown a few more. I'm not saying he lost. I had him 115-112. Disagree. He certainly isn't superior, and if Hopkins could have thrown a few punches every round, he would have wrapped it up. Credit to Calzaghe for smart fighting.
That is story of Bhops life, constantly being negative when he should have left his fists go a bit more. If he wants to wrestle he should join WWE, every chance he got he tied up JC and did fck all. The arse even faked how hurt he was (low blow) to get some more resting time.
He did what gave him the best chance of winning, unfortunately that happens to be holding and landing 2 punches a round, fortunately he lost.
For me BHOP still had some gas left in the tank and should have got angary and thrown some more bombs. He was trying to pace himself and he ended up being to conservative. The only time he looked good was the flash shot in round 1 and after the low blow when he got mad.
Hopkins is at the moment one of the most boring fighters ever! People have a go at Ricky Hatton for mauling and hugging, even calling him a mini Ruiz, well i think we have found a guy on par with Ruiz right here, in Hopkins. Cortez could have been more firm with him for the excessive holding, but let Borenard get away with it at every chance:-(
