I'm a Calzaghe-fan, and watched the match on RTL Germany.

Because Germans are so annoying, I turned off the sound.

In my opinion, Hopkins won, and it wasn't that close. Calzaghe's punches were ineffective, didn't land clean, his jab was sealed off and Hopkins found the right (with power!) all night long, he frustrated his man with clinches and movement, he was better on the inside and even got a knockdown.

The respect I have for Hopkins has soared. Calzaghe is every bit as good as I think he is -- Hopkins, with a limited physical body, has proven again what a wizard he is inside those ropes.

    A masterclass in boxing.

Hopkins fought the better fight but Joe was busier in the second half and a 114-113 scorecard is about right.

Preach brother. Hopkins is the man, but won't get the credit until he's long gone. Calzaghe needs to continue along this line for at least another 3-4 fights to be considered ATG.

I didn't see Hopkins land a single effective punch past the 4th round. On the other hand, I saw Calzaghe land a lot of clean shots, and his body punching as usual is totally overlooked and underrated. He hit Bernard with a lot of hard, solid body punches all night which probably played a role in Hopkins being fatigued and resorting to desperate tactics in the last 3rd of the fight

That's what bothers me -- Hopkins fought the better fight. I come on now and I see all these knowledgeable posters (fans of Hopkins among them) say Joe won clearly.

But Bernard shook Calzaghe on more than one occasion, while Joe never hurt Hopkins. He had control of the fight. He did amazingly well. I'm sorry to say, but, if Calzaghe really won that fight, it was solely to being busier.

In my mind, Bernard Hopkins is at least the moral victor.

I thought it was a very close fight. As you stated Calzaghe wasn't landing much but he was throwing a lot more. I tip the decision to the guy who makes the fight at that point. But yea it was close.

    114-113 seems fair.

Hitting and not get hit. However you do it. It's a fine tactic to use against a busy fighter -- heck, if it's the only way you'll possibly last at 43 years old against one of the best in the sport, how can you criticize it? He did what he had to do, and I give him credit for doing it so capably.

Fair play mate, you have my utmost respect for your lack of bias.

It was a close fight, I had it a draw.

ESPN and the Associated Press had it for Hopkins, but most people saw it Joe C's way in a very close one.

Kinda funny that I had a life-ban-bet riding on this match, and I end up feeling the opponent got shafted. Naturally, I already let him off the hook.
