I'm a huge fan of Tyson fury and believe he is the best current heavyweight in the world but...... If he does fight Charles Martin in his next fight as predicted it would be an absolute shocker of an opponent which ever way fury tries to spin it. I can't believe arum allowed scharwz let alone Martin, fury is making a mockery of his USA deal, a totally pointless fight who nobody wants to see!!
I agree....but, they want him to fight an American next before Wilder. Who is available who is American, not already signed up for a fight or just fought and don’t have the time to do a full camp or who hasn’t been bingo’d like Breazeale? I’d like to see him in a decent fight but they’re trying to build the Wilder rematch. It’s rubbish.
Unfortunately the stipulation of it being an American of reasonable ranking and profile limits his options somewhat. Realistically he’s only got Miller, Bryan, Martin or Washington that meet that criteria. Kownacki already has a fight scheduled. The ESPN deal means they’ll dictate things unfortunately - they want to boost his profile through fighting an American before Wilder. Don’t think Fury is to blame here really.
Just on the Fury/Hammer fight - wasn't that win supposed to be stricken from Fury's record? Both Boxrec and the Wiki pages show the win intact with no notes against it. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...ed-ban-christian-hammer-rematch-a8106516.html "His victory over Hammer is to be scratched from his record as a result of the failed test". Same info appears on the UKAD site. Can anyone clarify?
Much rather Charles Martin get the pay day than Miller the drugs cheat. Martin deserves it alone for walking this earth like a god.
Don’t see anything wrong it. They want him in with an American to boost the wilder fight and Charles Martin makes perfect sense. Like @Scissors just said , he deserves it a lot more than Jarrell Miller - he actually seems like a decent bloke from some interviews I’ve seen.
No Fury fan is going to try to delude themselves into thinking that Martin is a threat but if you look at the facts he is fresh off of a very good performance against Kownacki who was in the running to box Joshua as a late replacement for Miller and who has been lined up as a future Wilder opponent. Fury is boxing the Wilder-Ortiz winner in February so it’s all good as far as I’m concerned.
Agreed. Ideally I’d like him to have been a bit more active this year - fighting 3x not the anticipated 2x. Wilder fight early next year is great though.
They are "trying to build the wilder rematch" which is folly because there aren't really many other names in the division. Unless one of them beats Ruiz jr they aren't gonna make the rematch any bigger, just get it over with now.
I completely agree. But if he has to have an interim fight in the winter then Martin - a former world champion and (to my knowledge) never been caught cheating deserves it a lot more than Miller.
I agree with many of you . I understand it's a warm up fight before wilder and the options are limited with regards to Americans, but I'm not totally convinced that ESPN have stated this, I really think he should take a harder with because imo the wilder fight won't be happening I have a feeling wilder will fight Ruiz if he beats Joshua, so who will fury fight then another American in Washington maybe waiting for wilder. If that happens then fury has fought seferi, pianetta wilder, scharwz, Martin and possibly Washington since his comeback he beats up harder sparring partners than that bunch. Fury probably only has a couple more years and as a big fan I want to see him in there against live opponents not warm up nobodies waiting for the so called big fights!
If Wilder beats Ruiz and becomes undisputed they won't fight Fury again, it'll be Wilder vs the PBC merry go round for the next few years.
