That just sounds like a weak excuse to be fair. In that last four years Tyson has beaten Klitschko, Seferi, Pianeta and Schwarz. He's a guy who probably lost a quarter or so, possibly more, of his prime. And this year is plainly just a total waste as well. If you're a Fury fan surely you want to see more than him just fighting garbage.
He cant fight anyone half decent, that would be madness to risk anything before the wilder rematch, a poor performance, close fight or god forbid a loss would be a huge blow, he needs to look good again.....thats just how it is.
Where are people saying they're content with the opponents? The ESPN deal has hamstrung him, unfortunately. I've got no real interest in seeing him fight anyone who isn't credible top 10. The reality is, as people are explaining, is that ESPN now have a say in who he fights and want to 'build' his name in America.
You left out the draw with Wilder. Not a bad resume when you have fought and arguably beaten the number 1 in the division twice in their own country.
Hunter would maybe have some legitimacy having won and retained international/intercontinental but ranked 39 - it's not a real test. Miller could probably help sell it as he does talk well and could go for the redemption angle. Having failed those tests so outrageously though, he does not deserve the pay day so soon after the ban. He'd cost a fortune. Trevor Bryan has had a bit of slating but there are worse choices. He's undefeated, a biggish lump, New Yorker and ranked 28. I suppose it's not horrendous. Of the top 20 we're left with Charles Martin and I'm of same opinion as others on that challenge, then old man Washington (no) and Brezeale (NO). So I suppose if I was forced and ignoring the drugs cheats, in order of pref it would be Miller, Bryan, Hunter.
I see a lot of 'well, he needs to build his profile, he needs to make sure he doesn't lose before fighting Wilder' type comments. I don't get it. If you're a Fury fan then post-Wilder you want to see him fight Wilder again. If that can't happen surely you want him to fight the best he can? I don't understand it. And I don't see what this supposed promotion is really doing. The Schwarz fight was news for about five minutes and then the world moved on.
All Fury fans I know and posters on here I’m sure would’ve preferred an immediate rematch with Wilder - people are just realistic. Like it or not - broadcasters in their infinite wisdom want to build his profile over there. That’s how they work and the ESPN deal is so lucrative that they call the shots. The only fights I’d be interested in seeing really are Fury vs Wilder/Joshua/Ruiz/Usyk/Whyte - anything other than that is a bit of a waste of time. Fights like Miller could be fun given the buildup, but won’t tell us anything new. I’d like to think this attitude is shared by most Fury fans on this board. I haven’t seen people say ‘he needs to build a profile in the US’ who aren’t talking from the perspective of ESPN/Promoters. That’s the context in which people are saying it. If you’ve seen it said in a different context on this board, please link it as I would he interested to see and ask why.
Hunter is unavailable (Matchroom) and Bryan and Miller are already being considered by Top Rank. Just goes to show how limited the American heavyweight talent pool is right now that Charles Martin is the best of the rest.
Fury went to Germany to flight Wlad. He went to America to fight Wilder. He doesn't duck anyone. Top Rank are not going to put him in with a dangerous opponent, the Wilder fight is going to happen early next year.
We ought to add Parker to the list. He gave far too much deferance to AJ and then took the Whyte fight at stupidly short notice. Decent performance last time and there wasn't a lot between himself and Ruiz. Haven't heard any trash talking from him either.
Parker is a friend of Fury and he has said before he wont fight him. You can rule out any of the Matchroom fighters as Arum and Warren will not negotiate with Hearn.
Fair point but I would put him next tier down in my preferred options. We need the Wilder rematch, good fight last time and unfinished business. Joshua vs Fury regardless of Joshua’s defeat would still be a huge British heavyweight fight. Ruiz - whilst he has the belts - also is a massive fight. Usyk - intriguing to see how he gets on at HW. Brilliant fighter and would be fascinating to see how he copes with the size difference. I think Whyte has earned his place in the top tier too (current accusations not factored in as not proven.. yet). Parker would be next group down for me. They’re also pals so wouldn’t fight eachother unless a title was on the line.
I meant add him to the list of fighters I really want to see fighting; Wilder/AJ/T Fury/Ruiz/Whyte/Parker. Am curious about Usyk and want to see how he fares but some of these lads are monsters.
Would love to see Usyk in with Fury. Fury has said he's a great fighter but to small for the heavy's but Usyk has fought and beaten super heavyweights in the WSOB. It would be a real chess match between two of the most technically gifted fighters of their generation.
Suckers First of all , Fury aint 6'9......6'7...maybe Second, he trows 8 punches a round, is featherfisted and stinks the joint out with negative fighting, he will never draw a fly in the US and there aint no Zigeuner fan base there. Third, Fury knows that lightning never strikes twice and that last knock down against Wilder put the fear of God in him, he knows that he was in the best shape ever irregardless what his nuthuggers claim he was only at 60%.........he will never get any better, it is what it is, however Wilder can improve like he caught up with Fury twice in the second half of their fight....he will time the dipping this time around and Fury is going to sleep. But the rematch with Wilder is dead.....Arum will never let his Heavy meal ticket go to waste, Fury will strictly fight hand picked bums similar what Arum did with Foreman and keep tangling the Wilder carrot despite no intentions to make the fight.......similar to when Arum claimed for years that Mayweather was ducking Pac when in fact his team never wanted the fight........and they were right, Pac was reduced to a sparring partner when it finally happened. Fury/Arum will try every trick in the book to get Ruiz stripped of one of his belts, some obscure org is gonna make some bum the Mandatory to face Fury and voila, Fury got a belt.......and continues fighting bums. The most likely outcome is that Wilder will take care of the Cuban, will beat Ruiz to unify, both are Al Hamon fighters, because AJ is not going near Ruiz anytime soon, AJ will never recover from Ruiz PTSD btw and then puts Dbol Whyte out of his misery. If I look into my Crystall bowl right now the posibilty of a Brit fighter picking up a belt at Heavy is slim to none and Hearns has been check mated....
