Easily the fighter of my generation late 90s to Early 00s and to the 10s, I actually had a Rainer from the uk who trained mayweather numerous times when he was in the USA. Anyone who has laced the gloves can tell that is atg talent on show, even past prime he was so adept in his style he could UD mostly anyone. Ward has this style. No actually guys he isn't as quick or smart. He's physical!!! He's rough and tough. I like most posters here but I must sAy as a ps: kovalev will be the fighter of the 10s!! Either Koing ward or Barrera. And I'm a honest poster. Kovalev has so much raw power and able to land those shots on even a lhw mayweather. Which ward isn't.
A lot of people compare Mayweather to Ward but I just don't see it. Its actually a diss to TBE.:verysad Floyd was the complete package, consistent, 19 years, 49 fights, elite fighter inside the ring and a great showman outside of it!:deal Ward is barely 10 year pro with only 28 fights. atsch
Exactly and ward isn't nearly as smart adaptable strategically as Floyd. Floyd is far better than ward. And Kovalev is far more dangerous than any opponent who ward has faced. Literally would people give ward a chance against Bob foster, that's the level of danger we are discussing here.
Ward is very solid. But! As weight goes up, punch powers increase tenfold and punch resistance doesn't go up as well. What st I mean is from -175-300 is big boy territory you need to hurt your man.
Its really an unfair comparison. A welter vs a LHW. The smaller fighters are able to maintain more speed. Bigger men get tired faster so some have to pace themselves. Floyd could fight 3o rounds and not get tired. Guys like Ward and many other bigger guys are sucking air by round 5.
Punch resistance can go up in weight but not as much as many would think. You may be able to shake off a few shots easier but eventually you will get put down. But Ward's neck does look thicker in those Facebook photos of him in camp!:hey
I don't think people understand just how scary Kovalev truly is, he was toying with Hopkins, no one toys with Hopkins, BHop made him mad so he almost beat him to death and he had the stamina to do that in the 12th round. He reduced Jean Pascal to the level of a terrified child, it was like a like swatting his injured dinner around before devour it These are world class fighters he reduced to mere rag dolls that he could do what he wanted when he wanted, and there was nothing they could do about it.
Thank you this ain't play school for sergey. I'm gonna have to go to watch him live soon in the states. Even haters no kovalev is the real deal and no one can deny his entertainment
BHOP is an old man. I seriously doubt Kovalev would have fought the same against a 40 year old Hopkins, so let's not take it too extreme. Let's wait and see if Kovalev can do the same to Ward.
Id add that sergey is full time. He trains like animal the ought the year. MYweather comparison. A lot of guys aren' gym bunnies and it hurts em.
Yet that old man had just went at it with 3 LHW's with KO power, and looked sensational in doing it, don't act like BHop just got old all of a sudden when he fought Kovalev because its convenient for you. Sure he lost to Dawson, but that has more to do with Dawson being a terrible style clash for him than anything else. Dawson would have given him problems at 30 and 40 as well.
