Good one Bomber, glad you followed through, learned a new word,"dodgy". Keep it up, we need more threads like these.
if your intention is to turn pro, I believe that in that case you should polish up your pro game while still an amateur. Which in the states means you are going to get robbed on a constant basis. Amateur judges in the states seem to prefer a boxing style, should you care that you lose fights as an amateur and concentrate on polishing up your pro game, is that a bad thing? I see so many guys beat the dog do out of somebody only to lose a decision, the kid gets discouraged which in turn might effect his training and his desire. I am thinking of telling my guys not to worry so much about losing amateur fights and just work to polish up their pro game. I know you need amateur credentials to garner anykind of recognition, it seems its not working at least here in the states. This last batch of US Olympians cos of USABOXING, suck bigtime, there are no stars at all. My 17yr old who fought only 1 or two fights as a senior fighter, had a better debut then any US olympian.
http://youtu.be/qVg9OA4_PEw, I wish I could post Errol Spence's pro debut but it's not available. Spence was fighting a '40pdr(10 stone I believe) and who had been ko'd in one rd in a previous fight at '40.

Interestingly Dempsey, Headguards came in, in the 80s. About the time when the USA stopped producing the Best Teams.

How do you actually turn professional? Never really understood or known the process.

Last week is always easy if I was fighting on a Saturday - Monday would be a fairly normal session - Tuesday a light one , Wednesday even lighter and providing weight was ok that would be it till Saturday

I boxed in the championships and got to the top ten in England (9) - after that I got beat on a club show - robbed blind and I was going to quit- the trainer came and saw me and said I had potential and I thought ill just have one pro fight then I can say I've done it.

10 years later wish I could do it all again.

Anyone can turn pro provided the board approve their application. It's not really any indication your good - look at flintoff. If I could do it again Inshould have had another year in the ams- despite me being robbed I was improving and I might have done better in the ABA's.

Learn as much as you can in the ams like Dempsey says- then turn over. Just started coaching a young lad now - he's already good enough to beat some journeyman - but why rush- ill try some things with him in the ams and then decide what the best route for him will be .

You're right and its sad, I heard they were doing away with headgear, I am going to check it out to see at what level it might be. Also our guys dont stay amateur long, Rashee ****** did and he was a total waste.

Most embarrassing moment in the ring?

How nervous were you prior to prizefighter in the dressing room?

Would you shag Jane couch to go back in history and try another fight again and which fight?

How do you think you would have done vs amir khan had the fight happened live in ITV as well I assume?

    1) any time you get beat that walk to the dressing room is terrible. Losing at home to Baz Carey was the worst though. He was no where near me in terms of talent.

    2) pretty nervous but not overly so just the same as normal - it was awesome.

    3) yes and the hardcastle fight - I won that but they robbed me. That said only by one point and I cruised the last round. Broke my heart.

    4) he would have stopped me. Unless I caught him with a left hook. Maybe.

Ricky burns was very good but despite the 40-36 it was actually quite a close fight I shook him with a left hook at one point and we agreed we should have a rematch over six with notice as I only had 2 days. He's improved a lot.

I never felt outclassed ever as a pro- as an amateur I boxed a lad called Steven Mathews he was number 2 in the UK - absolute class. I didn't know enough and he beat me handily. He was prob the best.

    That makes sense.

And just to get into specifics, when you say Tuesday and Wednesday would be light do you mean just shadow boxing and maybe something like the double end bag? Something like 4 to 5 rounds each and that would be it?
