He didn't throw enough punches is one of my favourite excuses of all time. Be equivalent to me watching the Lakers lose and then hearing someone say 'ah the issue is, they didn't score enough points' no **** you dumb ****.
I don't think they are really excuses. It's seems more to me like people who don't understand why AJ lost trying to rationalise an explanation. If anything it just exposes that persons lack of understanding of the sport they profess to be a fan of. AJ has a lot of casual fans, people who really don't understand boxing, they just see his size and huge muscles and think he KO's everyone and then they see little Usyk and can't figure out how he won because they don't understand the techniques used, so they say he didn't throw enough when students of the game understand Usyk's movement, defence and counters limited Joshua's ability to mount offence.
Yeah I hate when people say that, I remember when I used to say that lol. I, like these people now simply didn't understand boxing then, as a fan I never stop learning about this sport and how it evolves and new techniques emerge or old technique are brought back by some young new successful champion. I try and be a bit more understanding of people who say it as I do recall when I was that dumb and knew bugger all about boxing even though I thought I was a hardcore fan. I know more now but there's still people on this forum who blow me away with their knowledge.
I am not sure why so many people are surprised. This is a guy who, two years ago, was battered from pillar to post by Andy Rice Pudding Jr. He's very good, but he's not that good that this is a big upset losing to Usyk. It's only a big surprise to those who overrated Joshua and underrated Usyk.
I wouldn't call them all 'excuses', Joshua's psychology is an integral part of him as a fighter as much as his skills. As much as skills, he could improve for a rematch but it's very unlikely. Some people are playing it like he was just in a bad mood or something though, or just needs some genius to tell him to 'be more aggressive,' 'let your hands go.' I do get the sense however that most people just saw him outclassed and wouldn't favour him in a rematch if being earnest.
And yet not one of them came from Joshua - funny that. The only thing Joshua has said is, 'The better man won, but I'll get him in the rematch', 'It was going well until my eye was busted. I couldn't see out of it' - which it was. Admittedly it wasn't completely closed as he stated, but if you've ever had a lumped eye on the underside of your eye, you do struggle to see jabs and hooks from the hip. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. People should have to fill out a questionnaire on general boxing knowledge before they are allowed to scrutinise a fighter. It's no different to the weirdos talking about PEDs, even though they have zero background or understanding on how they work - you look foolish.
So, let me get this straight. He's damned if he's respectful in defeat, but damned if he is arrogant in defeat? Got it. Makes sense, given the agendas on this forum.
