Maidana's win over Glass Heart Ortiz catapulted him in the eyes of many. Since then he's been heavily hyped. It also meshes conveniently since Maidana, despite his crude style, can bang, while at the same time Amir Khan can't take even a glancing blow. So, it makes for some drama. Something to talk about.
His #4 rating is about right, but I would rather watch this guy try to knock the **** out of somebody than PBF shoulder roll all night. On my "guys to make sure I watch fight" list, he's really high.
Everyone rates Maidana highly, because he beat a top light-welterweight in Ortiz, and currently has Amir Khan scared Shitless
Because he's a fighter with one very questionable loss and a 90% KO rate, and shows heart and a fighting spirit whenever he steps into the ring. I think he's rated behind Bradley, Alexander, and Khan, but his pending bout with Khan (whenever that is) also makes an interesting power-puncher vs suspect-chin backstory.
Ask Khans management why we should rate him highly. They made a deal with him so he wouldnt enforce his mandatory against Khan. I think that shows he is a big threat. He could beat both Bradley and Khan if he lands one big punch. Alexander showed a very sturdy chin so thats why i dont even give him a punchers chance against him but other than that i think he is almost a tossup with anyone else. Just because of that big power and decent speed. I mean its not like he is a slow puncher. The guy has speed to go along with power.
His power, mainly. And because he was set up for a fight with Khan which everyone was hoping he'd win by brutal KO complete with Khan doing the funky chicken dance. That's the reason everyone knows who he is. I was pretty much sold after the Cayo KO. Nothing like a good bodyshot KO. I just like how he puts everything behind his punches. Should serve him well against most of the guys at that weight. I'd pick Alexander and Bradley to beat him, nobody else.
he's willing to face an African American Slick fighter, something Manny Pacquiao has not or will never do..
Why is he rated highly? Because he can end a bout with 1 punch. Can he be outboxed? Yes...but you have to be switched on for the full 3 minutes of every round. Also, like many have said...he is rated below Alexander, Bradley and Khan...
Because he's a an explosive offensive fighter with big time power. Fans tend to ovvrate those guys highly even if their crude lack of skills is very apparent. His mini hype reminds me of Edison Miranda... another crude puncher with a shaky chin was was completely exposed as he stepped up the latter and began fighting world class opposition.
