If he does, all my criticism of him is simply moot. I'll retract all doubts I've had and proclaim he has the heart of a champion. Incidentally, if he wins both those fights, he'll be doing himself a great favor in terms of ATG-rankings.
Floyd showed his key skill. His mental fortitude and consistency. While Zab was landing the flashy shots early and winning rounds. Floyd did not get frustrated in the slighest and stuck to his gameplan and kept tagging Zab to the body. Thats why pressure means nothing to a fighter like Floyd. He does not get pressured. Even in the Castillo fight he was not worried and was never hurt though Castillo had him on the inside longer then he would of liked and he had a torn rotar cuff.
Any fighter can be pressured. Some can take more pressure than others before being severely uncomfortable, and Floyd can take a lot. But the post above is nothing other than a lovesong for Floyd. You have a set agenda. Floyd compliments = good. Any Floyd negativity = bad. No matter how much or how little merit the comments contain. That Floyd is talented and skilled is not into question. The question is, if he is that talented, that skilled and that confident, why does he seem reluctant to take on all challenges? If Floyd could clean up this packed Welterweight division, that would be a major plus in his legacy. He'd move entire tiers up.
Floyd knows that he is not a true welter. As I said previously. He walks around at the welter limit. If you can name one of the guys you mention that dont drain to make the weight I will STFU. Floyd is not going to risk tussling with bigger guys unless it is for bigger money. If these guys were in the same weight class in reality and not dehydrating on the scale you would see it happen. Floyd is not dumb, he knows he is a small welter. He moved up and is choosing fights that are risky as ODH is one guy out of all the so called legit threats you mentioned that has actual one punch KO power and the technique to deliver such punch. Floyd makes big fights with big names. I dont like it, but it is what he chooses to do. As long as he is fighting top fighters I dont care.
Judging by his words and actions, his confidance in his own skills is not that great. His boys too, they keep repeating the same **** over and over and over.
By your own admission, Toopretty, 'Floyd knows he is not a big Welter.' Apparantly I (while not a fan of Mayweather specifically) have more faith in Floyd than you (a rabid fan of Floyd) does. I think he has the tools to beat Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, and Paul Williams. While undersized, he has the movement, handspeed, defense, ring intelligence and accuracy to win. However, the result would not be set in stone. These would be risky fights, and it is not unthinkable that Floyd may lose. Dammit, this is boxing. What the hell have we come to when the leading man in the sport doesn't dare to be great? I'm not asking him to win -- I'm asking him to fight. I'm aware of the fact that the turf would be unequal -- but the challenge of doing it anyway would be luring for any champion. Take a loss -- take a rematch -- make it a trilogy if need be, but conquer that division. You'll not only fatten your bank account and ut another massive feather in your cap, but the struggle, the drama and bravery that would accompany those fights could endear Floyd to the very public he has estranged. It boils down to a simple thing; what is it about? Looking pretty or seeking out the best and beating them? He has an '0' to lose, but so very much to gain. I just hope he does it.
Standi, Over the last few week most of the BS predictions have being coming from Mayweathers fans, not Hattons. People favoring a Hatton win are pretty much in the minority....don't make out if Mayweather wins that you were one of the few to predict it.
Still kinda weird that a Floyd fan like TooPretty doesn't have full confidence in a hypothetical matchup with Paul Williams or Cotto.
Thats a good analysis but I'd disagree with you on one item. Ricky Hatton WILL get inside on Floyd. Eventually. There'll be a lot of pot-shotting and backpedalling before it happens, but we've all seen it in Mayweather's previous fights. He goes back, finds himself on the ropes and has to slip and dodge his way out of danger. Demarcus Corley got up close with him, Zab did, Oscar managed to back him up and land plenty of good shots. Getting up close to Floyd isn't the hard part, it can be done and it has been done, its wether or not Hatton will be able to land much once he gets in range. Floyd is a defensive master, his reflexes are superb, and I can see Hatton throwing many many punches, and making Floyd uncomfortable for sure, but missing 90% of them due to Floyd' defensive skills. However, I think that if he fights like that he might do well. If he puts so much pressure on Floyd that Floyd is constantly defensive and on the counter he will pick up rounds on workrate and aggression alone. Floyd will do the better boxing, no doubt, but is he going to go deep in the trenches and fight for every round? Thats not Floyd's style. If he closes up shop he'll lose rounds to someone like Hatton, whereas when he's fighting De La Hoya he's ok coz De La Hoya only fights 1minute per round. Hatton fights non-stop, and at some point Floyd will have to stand his ground and trade and get Hatton's respect. This is what I'm looking forward, finally seeing Floyd up against someone tenacious enough to make him fight hard and take a few risks. He cant coast his way to a win here, he's not fighting Carlos Baldomir. Hatton can do this, even though I favour Floyd. What I can guarentee is that Hatton is aggressive enough and tough enough to force Floyd to really dig deep and fight, and if Floyd wants to win he'll have to be at his brilliant best to do it.
I hear you, but you fail to mention that Hatton went out of his way to put down PBF's career after the Castillo fight. If you're going to talk trash then you must back it up no matter what weight class it is. I see you're point, but Hatton put himself in this situation. We'll see how he handles it on DEC 8.
The size difference isn't much at all and superfights between top P4P and a guy moving up in weight is nothing new at all. Marvin Hagler-Thomas Hearns Marvin Hagler-Roberto Duran Marvin Hagler-Ray Leonard Salvador Sanchez-Wilfredo Gomez Bernard Hopkins-Oscar De La Hoya Pernell Whitaker-Julio Cesar Chavez (p4p #1 JCC moving up to face p4p #2 Whitaker)
Margarito insulted Floyd tons, but he never got a match due to it. There's less emotion and more risk-reward thinking at work here than skindeep suggests.
