That Roach and so many others believe in their own minds that Miguel Cotto was hurt against Judah in the first round. It was LAMPLEY who said Cotto was hurt. We've seen Cotto hurt and wobbled before. Refer to the Torres and Corley fights. In that round, he was caught with a nice uppercut and he took a step back. Judah then proceeded to blitz Cotto. Cotto in turn backed up and tried to move out of the way to find a possible counter opportunity. He retreated to the ropes and got just that. This bull**** about he was wobbled is ****in' funny man. I think all of us are familiar with what a hurt Cotto looks like. And he was NOT that in the first round. But because LAMPLEY goes wild saying that he "was definitely hurt" we're all lead to believe that he was... I seriously hope Roach studied more than just that fight...
It shook him up but he wasn't genuinely hurt/wobbled. There are better examples of that in his other fights. He went straight into an elaborate shoulder roll and bob and weave after the shot landed, something someone on ***** street in anyway couldn't do. After both shots (the uppercut and then the straight left on the ropes) he had solid footing and used fairly elaborate defensive manoeuvres, and then returned fire with firm controlled punches. It just earned his attention and was a big wake up call. The interesting part was Manny Stewards commentating, he pretty much predicted it on queue as though Judah was listening to him.
I think he was hurt for sure, Cotto wouldn't back off to the ropes like that unless he was. Strange since his chin seems much improved at 147, but Zab is an amazing talent and gives everybody problems.
So because it was Lampley who said it was hurt he's wrong and Cotto didn't wobble? Cotto was wobbled, rocked, hurt and shook up by THE FIRST punch Judah landed and it was an uppercut in blazing speed right on the button. [yt]ecEVbJ7jklY[/yt] If you can't see he was rocked and needed a low blow to get a break you must have serious issues man. No one is saying he was a KO waiting to happen or OUT of it, hell no, he was hurt/rocked.
Yea Cotto got tagged early by Judah but wasn't seriously hurt. If Judah was a fighter with a strong mind and will, he would've taken Cotto to hell and back.
I think it caught his attention. Much like Konamon said. He was about as hurt with that punch as Mayweather was by the straight left when he fought Zab. It caught both of their attention and both composed themselves accordingly and moved properly. Zab tends to blitz his opponents once he feels he hit them with a solid shot, in which he hit Cotto with a good shot. Was he hurt? **** no. Did you see his face? Did you see how he moved and threw punches back. I mean **** man, his legs were still pretty solid. If you look at what Cotto looked like in the Torres fight, his eyes went blank and he stumbled from having his legs buckle. Cotto also clinches immediately when he's hurt. Cotto never went for the clinch after being hit, but rather tried to box his way out of the oncoming speedy shots of Zab. He did fairly well too. And the low blow...do we seriously need to go there? :nono
lol.... i like how you capatalise THE FIRST as if that has anything to do with anything.... it just so happened that judahs FIRST punch was a ****ing doozy.... so ya, judahs FIRST PUNCH wobbled cotto for a bit, whoooaoaaaaa.... he then proceeds to beat the **** out of judah down the stretch.... VARG as for if cotto was truly wobbled or not, cotto keeps such composure that its hard to tell thats for sure :good But personally i do think he was a bit stunned
You can argue whether or not he was actually hurt during the first round (fighters who are hurt don't always show it) but he was definitely wobbled in the 2nd after he ran into a Zab straight left hand.
No, he wasnt hurt. It was a stun-get-your-attention punch. He was moving too quick and defensive for him to be woozy.
That uppercut zapped Cotto, but I don't think he was all that hurt. Neither was Judah by that low blow. I'm sure the low low hurt, but not as much as Judah acted like it did. If you watch, you can see that Judah's reaction to the shot was late.
Well my guess is this. Me personally heading into a fight or sparring match with someone I've never seen or heard much of I kinda don't expect huge fire power. And seeing as how he jabbed him a few times and didn't really feel ****, I don't think Cotto expected that to come out of Judah. I'm not saying Judah didn't phase Cotto at all. I definitely think it got his attention. But was he hurt? I doubt it. I think he was like "Damn...that was a nice shot." The way he moved back, tried to slip or anticipate punches and fire back clearly shows that he wasn't hurt. People talk about "he recovered quickly"...there's nothing he recovered from. I'm sure he felt the punch and said to himself "okay...here we go...now we're fighting" I've personally felt and seen the difference between being genuinely hurt or wobbled or even stunned and simply being surprised by someones power. Most fighters (and Cotto's no different...look at the Mosley fight) when they get stunned they stop moving. They freeze for a second. Most fighters usually make a face as well. Cotto is special in that aspect to maintain a pokerface. But Cotto does freeze. When Mosley landed those bombs, his legs froze and Cotto didn't move. When a fighter is genuinely hurt, I don't care how straight faced you are, there's no way possible to hide weakened legs or "stank leg"...chicken dance...etc. It just sorta happens. I've caught myself doing it. I've done it to people. And typically soon after they shake their heads. Cotto did it in the Torres fight and Corley fight soon after being caught with those shots. **** even Pacquiao did it when Marquez landed that counter left hook. His legs buckled, he wobbled, and then shook his head quickly and regained composure. In this sequence Cotto took a shot and then Zab went nuts and tried blitzing Cotto. When you're the slower fighter, you're not going to try and exchange in an instance such as this one. Cotto did the smart thing and back up while using lateral movement and angles while trying to set up his countering arsenal.
Wobbled/rocked/hurt is when a fighter goes bandy legged and doesn't have proper control of their legs for a time. Cotto's legs were fine, his footing was solid and his head was clear, hence the defensive maneuvering and counter punching. It caught his attention and shook him up, but he wasn't hurt, his legs were fine and he had his wits.
