I'm excited about a Fedor rematch with Werdum. How can you not be after what happened in their first fight?
Because I think everyone's looking into it way too much and I don't hold any grudges against Werdum nor do I want to see him get smashed, which probably adds to the reason. Fedor just got caught, and nobody ever seems to mention the fact that he was probably close to finishing him, especially as he knocked him the **** down. It's not going to be this awesome fight everyone thinks it is, it's going to be Fedor knocking his ass out in a round or two. I don't know why people have gotten on Fedor's back so much to be honest. If GSP can get tko'd and sub'd and be the best in the world, silva subbed twice and have two other losses, why can't Fedor not have his balls busted for getting caught in a triangle? I just don't see the rematch as that big a deal, and I don't care to see Fedor exact his revenge nor do I want Werdum to get lucky again, so i'm completely lukewarm to it. Fedor vs. Overeem, on the other hand...
I actually think Fedor wont win this. Personally i think he has slipped too far and been inactive too long to beat Overeem Barnett and even Silva. Id love to see an Fedor Overeem final but have a sneaky suspicion there's going to be some upsets here.
He doesn't really have a resume as a HW MMA fighter though; he is all potential. Very very large potential, but not proven against quality competition.
When someone's as blatantly monstrous and legit as Overeem that shouldnt matter. What the hell has happened to common sense?
Because rankings should be based on what you've done, not what we think you can do. Overeem has a history of losing to the upper tiered fighters he's faced in mma. Overeem has since turned into a ****ing hulk, has world class stand-up, and has a legit submission game. Overeem still hasn't faced a top tiered heavyweight. We haven't seen anyone test his resolve lately. Maybe he is too good to see his resolve tested. We don't know. We haven't seen him fight anyone of note.
So a guy with 5-2, who hasnt fought legit comp and won, who has bad standup and bad ground game gets to the top for the simple fact that he fights in the UFC while a guy with experience, whose fought good guys, who fought top strikers and who has shown top level striking and ground game somehow gets ranked lower simply because he doesnt have the almighty Zuffa hype machine on his beck and call?
Why is Carwin regarded as a better fighter than Rogers? Why is Brock regarded a better fighter than Duffee?
Exactly, all these fighters have fought and won against pretty much irrelevant guys, the relevant ones they lost. The only difference is that one group has the Zuffa PR machine to propel them up the rankings while the other group does not.
That's a fair point. But your an adult and capable of making up your own mind right? No skin off your nose if Sherdog rankings are fiction Unless your butt hurt because Fedor isnt number 1 anymore.
The thing is he isn't blatantly legit as a very top tier MMA fighter. He is obviously a huge talent, but that talent has not been harnessed in MMA for us to see yet.
Brock fought and beat heavyweight champions; he does not have "a bad ground game" either, not sure where you get that from. The experience of Overeem and fighting good guys you speak of took place at 205, and often was losing, not exactly helping his cause for a HW ranking. Top level ground game? He is by no means bad on the ground, but he does not have a top level ground game. The proven HW MMA accomplishments between the two simply do not favor Overeem, this is not a kickboxing ranking or wildly inconsistent 205lb ranking.
Far, far, far better wins, that is why. Again, you never actually say who you would rank ahead of the "Zuffa hype jobs", just make irrational statements against anything related to the UFC.
