I just watched the Alvarez fight. I'm pretty surprised how good Margarito looked. The snap on his punches isn't quite what it was, but he moved well and mixed up his attack nicely. Technically and tactically as good as ever. Doesn't look 38 at all, in fact the four years off might have extended his career for a good run. At his peak he was a bit overrated, but since the handwraps fiasco he's got too much hate and has become underrated. Angulo is the fight I'd love for him.
I'd like to see Margarito fight the likes of Angulo, Bundrige, Martirosyan, etc. If successful, then move on to Lara, Cotto 3. Margarito vs Mayorga would also be fun.
Ive known him since 1999 when he appeared on a card in Ft Worth TX . I knew he was something special When he KO'd Buck Smith in the 4th. Followed him ever since He is the classic Mexican FIGHTER!!!
You can switch Trout with Bundrage if you like. I want to see Margarito fight a couple of fighters rated around 10-20 at JrMW to see where he's at.. Not sure why the gist of the post went over your head.:huh
I'm amazed that people still love Tony. CJ's commitment to clearly him despite him looking a cheat to 99% of boxing fans really is something to behold. Plastered up or not, he was a very limited guy and with such big question marks over an of his big wins and having achieved nothing of note post the hand wrap debacle I just can't see why anyone rates him.
I personally don't like seeing fighters sticking around too long and suffering any permanent damage. Like him or hate him, Margarito is a gladiator, and I wouldn't want to see him permanently ****ed up.
Margarito's game has changed since the injury. He is no longer as willing to come charging in with agressive movement and take 2 or 3 to land 1. Also his output is down which is what made Tony a hard style to deal with. Margarito still has flashes of himself but let's see what happens. His eye ain't as fugged up as most make of it tho. (The shape of his face on the right side looks a bit off but the actual eye seems fine. (Only he knows for sure) Vs. Rosado, Vs. Kirkland, Vs. Mosley II, Vs. Erik Morales (Yup, They have beef... TJ beef), Vs. R.Alavez II, ect... He can continue to make money & put 10,000 assess in the seats. For a belt tho... he'd have to catch like a Liam Smith or K9-Bundrage type of a belt holder window to be champion again.
I'm not necessarily thrilled that he has return , Yes he was quite an entertaining fighter back in the day . I don't think anyone in here can say say Margarita didn't excite them . The man was known for his hellacious wars . But that time is gone now. He needs to retire . He should be concerned about that eye . Vision is a beautiful thing to lose .
He wasn't an exciting fighter. He had a decent chin up until the Shane fight. He should retire though. I never liked him but I don't want to see anyone lose their eyesight.
