My brain is slowly melting. He insists Roy Jones would not be hit the entire fight.

Something you need to look at though is that if Louis/Conn was a 12 round fight, Conn would have won. If Conn could do that well against Louis then surely Roy could too. Conn only lost because he decided to get into a slugging match with Louis because he thought he could knock him out which Conn said himself after the fight was a stupid idea...I think Roy would have been smart enough not to get into a slugging match with Louis, therefore, I think Roy would have a good chance. Also remember heavyweights weren't as big back then so Louis wouldn't be much bigger than Roy. I actually consider it a 50/50 fight IMHO.

I assume your referring to my post...if you are:

Please point out where I said Roy couldn't be knocked out by Louis.

All I'm saying is Roy would have had a chance...I considered it a 50/50 fight. It wouldn't surprise me to see Roy get a decision and it wouldn't surprise me to see Roy go to sleep after the first hard punch that Louis landed.

I used Conn/Louis as a comparison because Conn was a light heavyweight like Roy is and if you look at that fight and how well Conn did before he decided to slug, then you can see how Roy would have a chance to do well.

I was actually referring to the initial thread..

Roy being any kind of close competition for Joe is kinda funny for me..

This is probably the most balanced opinon, although I'm sure most would favour Louis in this fight. Certainly Roy would have to stay out of Louis' power range and try and win a decision. He has almost no chance going toe to toe with him, his superior speed notwithstanding, there's too much of a power difference. But it might not unfold the way most expect it too, cause certainly Louis never faced anyone with Roy's speed and athletic ability.

I'm in leagues with LogDog. 50/50. Yes we're talking about the greatest heavyweight ever (My opionon) but we're also talking about one of the most God given talented men ever too. Louis, tho had very heavy hands, wasn't much bigger than Roy. Roy's speed nullifies alot that Louis has to offer. I would have to say, it depends on what era they fought in (rules changed over the years) If they fought in Louis' era, he would get the early to mid round KO/TKO, if they fought in Jones' era, I would lean to Jones squeaking by with a UD, SD, MD

THis fight would not be a joke at all with both men in their primes. Conn was winning when he was ko'd in round 13. The reason for the KO by Louis has two different stories that I'm aware of. 1) Conn got cocky and tried to KO Louis is the most common. 2) Louis was starting to find his range a bit later in the fight and Conn was getting tired and this forced Conn to exchange more which lead to the conclusive ending. I would go with Louis by KO/TKO, but have no idea when it would happen, but I would not be surprised if Jones scored a decision or even a TKO.

When people talk about guys moving up in weight, Conn is a fantastic example how far one can go. The guy started his career out at about 135 lbs.!!!!!!! Think about Floyd fighting Calzeghe for example. It would not even be close to the jump that Conn made over his career.

Do you mind if I ask why you're wasting your time engaging in such a debate?

Of course Jones would not entirely be up the creek in this one contrary to what others might think. Louis was dominated and ultimately knocked out by a 190 Lb Max Schmeling. I don't care what anyone says, Schmeling was not as talented or athletic as Roy Jones.

Louis would KO Roy to big to good. If Roy ran for the whole fight he could win a descsion. But he would not run and he would get KO'd.
