    Vice Versa.

Do you think Manny simply allowed Clottey to land the shots he did land?

Manny was busted up because for all of his offensive mastery, he's not a great defensive fighter. He got hit with practically every lead right hand Clottey threw, and he was nailed multiple times on the inside with the sharp left uppercuts. He wasn't allowing Clottey to hit him, he just got hit. Let's get back to reality.

    yes it's vice versa.

Don't put words into his mouth. He means, Pac opening up to invite an exchange and being too complacent because of the huge lead. There's a difference between "allowing to be hit" and "being careless" a bit due to paramount buffer he have on the cards. So Yes he got hit simple as, reading what the poster said - that's what he means. Were all on the same page here.

    Popkins, I'll ask you,

Do you think Manny Pacquiao was allowing Joshua Clottey to hit him flush because he wanted the crowd to have a good time? I think the more likely scenario was that Joshua Clottey, being the talented professional prizefighter he is, simply had the physical capabilities and mental fortitude required for him to extent his right arm, thus making contact with Manny's face with his gloves...I don't know though, maybe it's just me.

I'm not putting words in anyone's mouth Cocteau, he said, "Manny allowed Clottey free shots". The shots I think he is referring to was when Manny Pacquiao, being a human being also and therefore not being able to throw punches constantly for 12 rounds, would stand straight up and cover his face with his gloves. Clottey, being a relatively smart fighter, instead of hitting Manny's gloves just as Manny had done to him for the best part of 12 rounds, thought to go up inside the gloves with uppercuts. Those aren't free shots. If you want to see free shots tune in to Vernon Forrest vs Ricardo Mayorga I or Tito Trinidad vs Ricardo Mayorga.

Re-watch the fight when Pacquiao sticks to the game plan, namely rounds 4 to 7 where he's establishing the lead. By round 8 his lead is established already (7 rounds to none), it's time to look for the knockout by setting traps and inviting exchange. Rounds 4 to 7 is a boxing clinic where Joshua isn't connecting at all, had the match is more competetive than it is - he'll naturally follow this gameplan.

What was clottey's connect percentage? I'm guessing not 100% or even half that. And since when was standing in front of a guy flat flooted and tapping your gloves implying hit me not meant giving the guy free shots. No defensive genius here but pacquiao does have very good defence. Im not saying all the times pacquiao got hit was him goading clottey, but there were definately a few times.

To be honest, i for one see parts of round 11 where Manny "indirectly" allowed free shots. People in the pub all say the same thing at once including me, that goes something like "manny letting himself get hit". Its obvious because the sequence is: Manny put his guard down then approaches within punching range of Joshua whilst not in a throwing stance.

I can't believe I'm arguing with seemingly educated people about this. Joshua landed shots because he was quick, and sharp enough to get off...not because Manny simply allowed him to do it. Watch rounds 1 through 12, Clottey lands with lead right hands often enough for the eye to see, and sharp uppercuts inside. Pacquiao would take some time off from moving and throwing punches, he's human and has a gas tank, but they aren't free shots. He covers his face with his gloves. By your logic, every single shot Manny landed to Joshua's ribcage were free shots.

Look, Pacquiao fans, I know you love the man and that's fine. I love my fighters too, but he won the fight relatively comfortably, so let's just find it in our heart to give Joshua a tiny bit of credit for the shots he did land. Manny is hittable, that has always been apparent. Let's stop the madness.
