Morales v Barrera 1 was a fight which I scored in favour of Erik Morales. I will admit that it could have gone either way as there were very few rds which were clearly won by any man. I think this fight was the greatest fight of all time for action, technique & heart combined but the way the word `robbery` was thrown about after such a close & wonderfull fight was down right disrespectfull of how good a fight `El Terrible` fought. For the record.... here is my scorecard.... 1. Barrera.... close. 2. Barrera.... close. 3. Barrera.... close. 4. Morales.... close. 5. Morales. 6. Morales.... close. 7. Morales. 8. Barrera.... close. 9. Morales.... close. 10. Morales. 11. Morales.... close. 12. Barrera. As you can see, there were 8 rds were I had trouble picking a winner & they got 4 each of those rds but for me the difference was the rds which morales just plain outworked Barrera to take clear (even tho MAB still landed some superb punches even in those morales rds.) Barrera`s best rd was the last rd were after an even 1st 2 mins, Erik starts trying to see the rd out as if he thought he had it & Barrera catches him with some hurtfull punches then gets credited with a KD which most people now agree wasnt a real knockdown but I still gave marco the rd 10-9 anyway. Please note... Im not here to break the balls of Barrera fans, Im just trying to find out more fans views on a fight which baffles me to hear people say `robbery` when I just dont see it. Ps. I scored fight 2 for morales by a wider margin & had fight 3 6 rds each with the right man getting the verdict if someone had to. Cheers.
It was very close, but I scored it for Morales by one point. Maybe next time I watch it, I score it for Barrera. Woller
Glad to see someone was actually watching what was happening in the ring rather than be swayed by biased commentators in close rds. For fights like this, you must watch with the volume turned down, only then will you realise how great & close this really was. Woller, I probably scored the fight similar to you as I had morales a 2 pt winner, 7-5 in rds only I only gave marco a 10-9 for rd 12 instead of a 10-8 which meant Erik would have only won by 1 pt. I wont argue till the death that morales won this as it was very close but my problem is with the dilusional fans who scream `robbery` when there is nothing of the kind.
I agree that it was possibly the best fight of all-time , imo it is. But i thought Barrera won it , it was a close one though
Fair enough. We all have opinions, its why were on here I suppose. This great fight was so close that you might actually lean toward your favourite style. Morales threw more & landed more. Barrera had tighter defence & picked his shots better. Im happy with the comments so far as the point of this thread was to get across just how crazy it is to call this a `robbery.` After 2 responses, we have a vote for Erik & a vote for Marco but at least both ou guys can see this was a close fight. Fight fans are finally going sane again. :happy
Haha , it was a very close fight , i wasnt saying that you are definitely wrong or anything , it was tight . Not like you are saying that Chavez beat Sweetpea !!!! The thin gwe agree on is that it is probably the best fight ever , imo the best
Definetly. Fights like gatti v ward & corrales v castillo dont have the top tier technique to match EM MAB 1 & other greats like hagler hearns (12 rds are better than 3) & Ali frazier 3 (too many rest periods) which are my other fav`s have to take a bow compared to EM MAB 1. Ps. I thought whitaker beat chavez myself. :good
Just on the subject of dodgy decisions , what did you think of Mosley-Oscar 2 ? Dont mean to cause an argument , just wanna know what others think of it. I thought it was a terrible decision . PS , feel free to ask about any decisions that your curious what i might think of. Good debating dodgy decisions imo
Corrales vs. Castillo had technique in it. Some of the best inside fighting i've seen in a long time.
I actually score all 3 fights in favor of barrera...which is ironic because although I like both fighters, I prefer morales's style and attitude
I thought DLH was robbed in the mosely 2nd fight even more than morales was robbed in the 2nd MAB fight & that was a clear morales win IMO, at least 8-4. I`ll start a new thread called dodgy deisions or something of that nature & we can discuss there. We dont want ESB members clicking in to discuss morales v Barrera only to find page after page of DLH v mosely etc etc. Ps. philyphan69. I respect your opinion & thanks for posting but Ive never understood why anyone could have scored the 2nd fight for MAB. The 1st fight... fair enough, it was close. The 3rd fight, fair enough, it was close. The 2nd fight, no way, morales looked comfotable from distance all night long in that fight bro. Even Barrera`s corner told him he was losing going into rd 12 & he tried desperately for the ko (you will notice Erik smile & shake his head as if... no chance, this is my night & you know it.) Watch all 3 fights with the volume turned down, it sounds like a stupid thing to do but the commentary definetely plays a part in the way you score close rds. If anyone won all 3 it was morales but neither of these guys won 3-0. Were talking 2 of the best of this & any other time vs each other + the beautiful hatred. Oh, I almost forgot.... Bxrfan. I know castillo corrales had very good technique but they were not as technically sound as the mexico`s top 2 & there was better variety in EM MAB 1. When splitting fights to decide greatest fight of all time, these small details make the difference IMO.
