Trinidad and Oscar where Jnr Middle weight champs and Middleweight title holders so not the same as Brook moving up untested at the weight.
The same ones will always hate Golovkin...............no matter what..............he tried to get the best into the ring, Alvarez gave up his title rather than fight, Jacobs refused, Saunders refused, Quillin refuses, Eubank refused after saying he would, ad infinitum...........
First of all, the 2 welters you mentioned are not your run of the mill welters! They are considered among the best ever! Brook, Bradely not so much! SRL was an inactive fighter and moved up only after he saw that Hagler had lost something(SRL admitted as much). Hearns fought on as high as light heavy! Big difference! Duran is Duran, I don't think I need to mention how good he was to you, if I do then you need to learn and watch his fights! Enough said! G fans trying to compare G's resume to Hagler's is just foolish! There is no comparison to be made! Hagler fought in an exceptional period of boxing! G is at a disadvantage in this regard and comparisons are just a waste of time really! There is nobody in or around G's division that compares to Hagler, Hearns, Leonard or Duran. Not G's fault but, stop trying to draw parallels between Hagler and G in this area! As I mentioned in another post. It would look much better for G if he had moved up to face the winner of Ward and Kovalev than bring up a welter weight, regardless of how good or big he might be! G is one of the most feared and avoided fighters in the game today! In my opinion, it looks bad on him to fight Brook when he should be maneuvering into position to fight the winner of Ward/Kov. It's apparent that the other 160 belt holders are not going to fight him. So his plan to get all the belts will fail. He made a good run at it but, what can he do if he doesn't have guys to fight! Move up my man!! You're good enough to do it!
I know Brook isnt on those guys level, but it was a plan b fight.GGG thought he had the Eubank fight.Brook is a decent fight for a last minute thing.Who else would he have been able to get so soon?
He should have taken plan A! Take on Canelo and concede on the weight and percentage cut. Like Mayweather did with DLH! Can't tell me it didn't pay off for May! Turned out being the highest paid athlete ever! Not saying G would make as much money but, he would have gotten a huge pay day and a popularity boost. Not to mention a ton of respect for cutting down to 155 for the fight. Of course he would have needed to win!
There were also reports that G would not fight under 160! Please don't get me wrong! I thought what Canelo tried to pull was BS! 2 champs from the same division fighting under the division weight is ridiculous! But it would seem, at some point G would bite the bullet and take a risk! He can't have it both ways! On one hand he wants all the belts at 160, that's fine if the other belt holders will fight you! If he can't get those guys in the ring, the last thing he should do is call up a welter weight, especially with the aura he has! With his rep he should have moved up to 175 and challenge Kov! From all the talk, Kov is low hanging fruit. G owned Kov in sparring, from what I'm to understand. Why wouldn't G take that fight and all the glory that comes with it?
