I don't mean to make this thread on the night he's defending against Lockett but it's blindingly obvious to me that the hype over Pavlik is quite a lot of hot air. OK... Here are my thoughts on Pavlik.

He makes entertaining fights, he always walks forward. Has very good power. He eats a shitload of jabs. He's very easy to counter when he misses which is quite often. He is one paced.

To me this guy is pretty limited. I just can't see how Pavlik can get anywhere near Calzaghe if they fought unless he got lucky. Pavlik likes to work his one-twos a lot and in the last fight worked everything off his jab. Calzaghe simply does not get hit with jabs.

I'm serious here and will be accused of blind nuthuggery but I don't think Pavlik poses any real threat to Calzaghe. Joe is simply leagues better. Pavlik has power in them there fists, but it's not superhuman. He might catch Joe with the odd shot but I see Pavlik being schooled if he ever shared a ring with Lockett more esteemed stablemate.

The one good thing that Pavlik does is to throw leather all the time - even when being hit himself. This is a great asset to have against Calzaghe if you can keep your head. But ultimately, Joe has too much. It would be an exciting fight though but Joe's jab and movement would dominate.

A Welshman thinking Joe is unbeatable, eh? What a SHOCKER, mate.

Joe has a real good shot at beating Kelly, no doubt, but to act like there's no way he can get near Calzaghe is looking at thing's with Joe-colored glasses. He'd do it the same way Hopkins and Brewster did, which is when Joe jumps in swinging wildly with both hands in combination.

Joe's best asset, which is his ambidexterity, shooting quick shots from both sides in fluid combination, can lead to his greatest weakness, which is leaving himself wide open while doing so. Joe's so fluid and quick with those combos that 98% of the time, that weakness never comes into play because his opponent is overwhelmed by it. But, timing, and willingness to absorb the first few shots of those combos, with a bunch of skill added in, can beat the offensively artistic yet defensively flawed Calzaghe. Just gotta find the right guy with all of those attributes firing at the same time to beat Joe, which is yet to happen. I picked both Kessler and Hopkins to do it, and they were on their way to doing so on my scorecards, but Joe's energy level and style got the best of both of them and Joe came back strong in both fights and won.

Pavlik definitely has a chance to win this, but I don't know who I'd pick if the if the fight were signed and happening this weekend. Hopefully this fight happens.

I agree with that - doesn't mean he's going to be able to hit him though.

I don't think he's unbeatable. Hopkins almost did it. They are not Calzaghe coloured glasses - it's how I see it.

What posts? This is the first time I've seen the second Taylor fight, that's all. It takes more than one fight to form a sound opinion.

How do the Calzombies put it again?? Oh yeah, Pavlik fights down to his opposition, and he really did have hand injuries, and JT fought the most impressive fight of his entire pro career. Pavlik didn't lose any steps, the former Olympic Medalist and Former Undisputed MW Champ of the World who owns two wins over ATG living legend B-Hop, simply made tons of proper adjustments and fought as smart as I've ever seen him.

Taylor kind of fought a smarter fight possibly. But you can't overlook the lost confidence and lack of commitment to launch an attack like in the first fight.

I like Pavlik, think he's great for the game and I'm sorry if I offend Pavlik fans (especially you pipe wrenched who I respect) but this is my honest opinion.

Far from you first 'joe beats pavlik' posts. Yet you just now saw this fight and think it shows Kelly has NO CHANCE? News flash. Taylor is faster than Joe. Period. I think Taylor, in a styles makes fights comparison, has an easier time with Joe than Kelly does. It will all be about scoring points. I think JT's speed takes that match up. Yet in the end, SPEED did not win it for Taylor against Kelly. To think Joe wins by that alone is absurd. KELLY WILL LAND. He is a little taller. If Joe gets close enough to land, Kelly is close enough to land. Kelly does cumulative damage. This will be a tough, close fight for both guys. Count on that.

PrideofWales is definitely not a Calzombie. He wasn't even sure Joe would beat Hopkins if I remember correctly, or he said it would be very difficult at the least

    His analysis is sincere :good

Calzaghe and Kessler would both make him look extremely bad.

If I was to use CHJ's statistics, which may or may not be pulled out of thin air, I'd say Calzaghe fans are 59.8% more objective than Pavlik fans

How do you explain the brutal beating he gave Miranda and Zertuche and the fact that he knocks his opponents out?
