Everyone knew Kovalev wasn't an inside fighter before the first fight. He controls distance well and puts on immense Golovkin-like pressure with the jab and shoulder feints. All Kovalev needs to do to adjust is catch Ward exiting the clinch or coming in.

Also, I don't think Ward is a great inside fighter at all. He doesn't do much while he is there. Ward throws punches from the outside then steps in as a form of defense to smother the opponents offense, while he's there he does some good clinchwork in controlling the arms and smothering offense but he only uses it to provide a safe way out of the clinch. When free from the clinch he throws a few cheeky body shots for style while backing up.

While both smart and tactful, I wouldn't really call it inside fighting.

 

The knockdown was actually a short right hand on the inside.

Ward's "infighting" was....mostly Tex Cobb clinching and body smacks. You really can't do anything against that.

I just rewatched the fight with the sound off. I had Kovalev up by a 1 point after the first 6. Can't really see how anyone can score that fight for Kovalev. You don't get points for holding and hitting which is exactly what Kovalev did for significant portions of the fight...

 

I watch with the sound off and got ward winning only 3 rounds in the last 6. I don't know how people think ward win lol

 

Yes, SOB could only have won 3 rounds and they were close. Kovalev won the fight, take a close look at all the low blows SOB landed, the headbutts over and over, elbows, he could get away with anything, SOB's personal referee Robert Tyrd was a criminal........................the judges were biased as hell.....................

 

I think he has copied it from somewhere else. Far to neutral, and Blizzy don't do neutral !
