I see your point but chin and recuperative ability are two different things. For example, Ray Leanard was a tough nut to crack, but when Hearns finally got to him in their second fight he was stumbling all over the place. Yet, despite two knockdowns and being badly hurt, he managed to survive and hear the final bell. He was lucky to not get koed.

Sometimes u just dont ever recover completely from a big shot even f u have a good chin. It was actually a rare exception for guys like Ali or Holyfield to get badly rocked in a fight and then shake it off to continue like nothing happened.

No matter how u slice it, bowe heard the final bell for all three fights and his chin also held up against herbie hide who had pretty good power. If he had a weak chin he certainly would have gotten exposed with all the flush shots he took--bowe had poor defense but not a poor chin.

Some great points made in this thread, about the effect of punches, under varying circumstances.

I've always felt that this bout would have been contested, in the main, at distance (which I also believe would have favored Lewis); a grinding chess match of point scoring, with very few, if any surprises. I think they'd both land heavy shots but neither would be at particular risk of being blindsided. Especially, with them having both brought their A-Game.

Suffice to say, I don't think Bowe would have much of an opportunity to land the KO blow on Lewis. However, I do think Bowe could take the Lewis power; just to his detriment, during a fight in which I reckon Lewis would dish out a drawn-out beating.

Yeah, he should've had more of a Mercer like chin.
