I'm Okay If Clenelo-Bivol Has A Catchweight...

He has still fought some very good names. I'm not one to think he's cherry picked all his career, but it's been matchmade to his benefit, as would happen with any other cash cow in boxing. But he's gone pretty diva w/ demands. Moreso than others before him,

 

All this catchweight clause minge from canelo sucks big balls! He needs to man up for once!

 

Some of this cherrypicker hate has to get redirected at the three divisions worth of guys who are just trying to be the ripest.

A couple good fights, a belt, and get in line. No further ambition than to grow a juicy record to sell. It's not the buyer who's to blame here.

 

That's the thing though, the names are great but the fights themselves pale in comparison , I didn't see anyone after GGG really try to win the fight .

And the scorecards are in a class of their own .

 

He should be fighting at 168-lbs. He has no need to chase Bivol up to 175. If Bivol says he can fight him at 168, then that fight can happen, if he can't then Canelo needs to fight someone who is at 168-lbs who can fight. I don't like the idea of Canelo moving up to Light Heavyweight again to chase Bivol or Beterbiev. I don't like the idea of a catchweight vs Bivol or anything like that. He should stay at 168-lbs, that's his weight class where he is unified Champ.

 

IF they fought at 168 and Bivol looked like drained garbage, what would you say? Excellent win and it's all Bivol's fault?

 

I didn't blame Ward when Dawson came down from 175 to fight Ward. It depends on how Bivol looks at the weight, and we won't know that till it happens. Given what happened to Dawson, I don't like the idea of a fighter dropping down in weight, but Bivol says he can do it and insists he's a small Light Heavyweight, so we can't judge Bivol or his ability to do that based on what happened to Dawson.

 

It’s been done before canelo and it will be done after canelo retires.

but thing I don’t like is he was more than happy to move up to fight kov at 175 pounds so that tells you everything you need to know.

canelo fan boy’s will try spin it another way create a different narrative but actions speak louder than words and his actions show that he’s trying to gain an advantage over bivol and he doesn’t want to fight beat version of bivol.

 

Of course not. That was on Dawson. But He ALSo said moving down was no issue. Why does everyone act like what a fighter says is 100% true???

Their fight being at 168 and Dawson moving down DID take away greatly from that fight. Dawson was a shell. And Ward fans weren't touting as something great. It turned in to a very forgettable fight.

 

I gave Ward almost no credit on beating Dawson at 168, I'd do the same for Canelo if the fight takes place at 168. A reasonable catchweight would be 172/3 pounds, it all depends on how Bivol looks. People forget but DLH drained Hopkins in their undisputed MW fight and Hopkins still beat his ass. At some point size makes a big diff and Canelo is no LHW, he's not even a SMW.

 

I don't think anyone considered Kovalev the #1 light heavyweight at the time, it was definitely Beterbiev or Bivol vying for that title. Remember, this was a Kovalev post Eleider Alvarez KO and Anthony Yarde late KO scare. He was considered the #3 guy, #2 at best. Obviously still a good win for Canelo but not over the consensus best guy in the division as you're falsely insinuating.

 

I know he wasn't. But the usual 'suspects' tried making that claim after canelo beat kov, saying he beat the #1 LtHW. But NOOOW...Canelo is once again too small for 175. Canelo fanboys are something else...

 

How the heck do you guys say something like this?? Canelo looked jacked at 168 & 175.

 

I just don't anticipate Bivol being as drained as Dawson was when he fought Ward if he managed to get down to 168 safely over a full camp. Dawson was a bigger LHW when he did that than Bivol is now. I understand the arguments against Bivol moving down to 168. I'm just trying to balance that out by saying this is not exactly the same as Dawson coming down for Ward in that I think it's pretty clear that Bivol would have a much easier time making 168 safely than Dawson did. That doesn't mean he should, and certainly not in a short camp, but as a fan I'm actually intrigued by Bivol's statement that he thinks he can make 168 no problem. If he and his team are serious about coming down to 168, then they must have a reason why they're setting that as a goal. Most people on here would probably say that's them just trying to entice Canelo into a fight, but this is where I call BS. I have no reason to believe that Bivol and his team weren't dead serious about moving down to 168, it's been something they've been talking about for many years, long before Canelo was considered as an opponent.

I don't want to see Bivol drained or unhealthy at any weight, but at the same time part of me wants to see if he can actually do what he says he can and get down to 168. I mean what if he pulls that move off and got into the best shape of his career and became a legend at 168. In all seriousness, Canelo aside, do you think Bivol could actually beome a legitimate Super Middleweight if he dedicated himself to it? In boxing you never know what could happen, but I'm willing to give Bivol the benefit of the doubt when he says he can move down to 168, that if given a chance and enough time, he would be able to make that happen and not be drained. And that's why I'd rather put the fight on hold until then, give Bivol time to make it down to 168, or to see if he can safely, and maybe this fight can happen later this year or next year at 168, rather than now at a catchweight which nobody wants to see because it's at a catchweight.
