Im positive canelo will give up the belt

He should have to fight GGG for not only that belt, but for all of GGG’s belts as well. It would be a fight for All the Titles. A unification fight like that needs to be built up. You know that he is #1 ranked at Jr Middleweight right? That means he is deserving of a title shot at that weight.

Why would Canelo risk losing the MW strap when he is in-line for an opportunity at the 154-lb belts?

Canelo will eventually out-grow 154-lbs and move up to 160 full time, if he were to go up to 160 then he will probably stay at that weight, and not fight at 154-lb any more. Now he is still a Jr Middleweight so his next fight should be to re-capture the 154-lb belts. Both belts that have been vacated should be on the line in Canelo’s next fight at 154-lb because he’s been #1 in that division for years and has beaten the #2 and #3 ranked Jr Middleweights. He is long overdue for a shot for those belts that Floyd has been holding for over 2 years.

Do you think Floyd should have been allowed to hold the 154-lb titles for 2 whole years while never defending them and fighting at 147-lb?

He isn’t choosing to go and be a 154 pound fighter. He has been a 154-lb fighter for years. Saturday was his first fight at Middleweight and the limit was only 1 lb over 154. He’s not going to be able to stay at 154-lb forever, which is why it’s important he recapture the vacant 154-lb belts now while he can still make the weight.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather wait a year for Canelo to go up to 160 and finish his business at 154-lb than have some catchweight with GGG or something and rush that fight. There are fights for Canelo at 154-lb right now that are good warm-ups for GGG.

He can do both. He can stay at 154 where he deserves a World Title Fight in his next fight. Once he re-captures those belts at 154, then he can go on and defend the MW Title. Or he can have another fight at 154, then defend the MW Title.

Anything is possible, Canelo and GGG is a fight that we all want to see, but remember that Canelo is the #1 Jr Middleweight in the World and is long overdue for a Title Shot there. Once he gets that fight (that he rightfully deserves) then Canelo will have more belts and will be in a better position for GGG negotiations.

I firmly believe that Canelo should not push for a catchweight with GGG. I think they should fight at 160 for all the belts, but first Canelo deserves an opportunity to re-capture the belts at 154-lb in his next fight. Canelo vs GGG can happen late 2016 or early 2017. I think a lot of us are hoping that Floyd comes back and rematches Canelo at 154, but we’re not sure if that will happen. If not that, a fight with Liam Smith for the WBO and the vacant belts early next year would be a good test for Canelo.

It’s silly that there is all this talk about stripping Canelo of a belt he just won and no talk of the 154-lb belts that have lay vacant for 2 years with Canelo ranked #1 in the division.

 

The only reason Canelo was allowed to face the midget sitting on the WBC belt is that Golovkin agreed to step aside. Canelo signed the fight agreement which includes his obligation (in case of his win) to fight Golovkin next and within a few months. He has to make a decision within 15 days on whether he will be fighting Golovkin or dropping the belt.
