I'm rewatching my Toney career set. Was Toney not popular in the US early on?

I'm from Detroit and Toney was definitely known while coming up as he was a regular on the then "Tuesday Night Fights" on USA cable network. Nunn was the real deal and at the time Nunn was top three boxers in the world on the pound 4 pound chart.

Whomever the idiot in the thread that says Toney was never in with an all time great. He's been in with three that being Mike McCallum, Holyfield and Roy Jones.

Forget Toney's mouth, anyone denying Toney's skills is literally an idiot that doesn't know anything about boxing. That said its too bad Toney's career is marred by lack of discipline when it came to training. I know he hated running (and still does) which easily explains he's weight issues.

Also a little known fact is that Toney was supposed to fight Hopkins prior to their discussion in 2002. I believe the year was 1994 and Hopkins and Toney were going to fight but Toney couldn't make middleweight (how surprising) and opted to fight Iran Barkley.

If Toney isn't an all time great, who the heck is?? Granted his weight issues affected his consistency but how many people have gone up from 160, 168, 190 and Heavyweight and have been extremely effective at each..

That is the correct answer. Actually, Toney played possum throughout the fight and caught Nunn. I actually felt bad for Nunn. I think, the ref should have took a point from Toney after hitting him behind the head. If Nunn would have gotton some time to recup, I think Nunn would have won by decision. Nunn was never the same after that fight. Toney excelled after becoming a champion. Yes, fighters lose and win fights. Toney is a legend for fighting everyone and winning titles in different divisions.
