I'm saying this right now: Andre Ward is the 3rd best fighter in the world.

Where did you stand on Ward pre-Super six?

If Floyd, Pac, and Wlad aren't around, you may end up being right. Right now, all 3 of those guys are all more dominant than Ward though. :thumbsup

You should have predicted it. That would have been OK. But you said he was the 3rd best in the world RIGHT NOW, which is very silly.

I was like most people, i didn't see enough of him against elite competition to properly evaluate him.

Wladimir Klitschko is my p4p#3 just now based on dominance and longevity.

If Ward beats Dirrell, I'd agree he is the 3rd best fighter in the world in terms of ability behind Pac and Mayweather...

...but I don't think he will beat The Matrix.

Well, i think skill wise, he is the 3rd best fighter in the world RIGHT NOW. But him actually climbing up the ranks on MERIT will take some time because he needs more big wins. And that's just a matter of time.

Whereas now you've seen him against one fighter than could be described as anything like elite and now can make a judgement?

Dirrell too fast, too big, too strong and hits to hard for Ward who is a wartered down even dirtier version of Bradley.

I am a very big fan of Ward and I am very impressed with his skill, but he is clearly not a Top 3 fighter in terms of skill. He wastes too many shots/ he doesn't pick all his shots well. Footwork, defence need improving too. A good few fighters that are more skilled.

If Ward excels at something, it's ring-generalship/ tactics/ implementation/ gamesmanship. He is mentally strong and very intelligent. I'll give you that - it counts for a hell of a lot, especially when you build on very good skill and will to win, especially considering how young and inexperienced he is.

You could very well be right. That's why i said in my OP that Dirrell is by far Ward's toughest test in the super 6. It wouldn't shock me one bit if Dirrell wins because of his speed. But i'm taking Ward. I see him adjust accordingly. Whether that's mauling Dirrell on the inside and yeah, maybe some questionable tactics here and there ala Bernard Hopkins. But he's much more well rounded and i think that will be the difference.

I'm bookmarking this thread for resurrection when Ward gets his ass handed to him by Dirrell.
