of the media constantly saying boxings dying or dead with ufc the main problem and supposed fans regurgitating this nonsense (mostly jeff and to a lesser extent rob on here) but if they repeat it enough times then people start to believe it i guess as i said in another thread ufc is unaesthetic, grotesque and abhorrent, its like being asked to accept a man having sexual relations with another man, its an abomination and anyone who says otherwise is a sick human being, its rise is not neccesarily a poor thing for boxing as opponents of the sweet science will start to realise the alternative, plus it will not have any longevity and will have the same problems boxing has encounted not only that but the two have a different fan base if boxing is "declining" (never been better depending on how one looks at it) then nothing is killing the sport more then people in the business, some problems can't be fixed like getting a central authority, but promoters, fighters and tv execs are murdering their own babies. Stop it with all this doom and gloom, the sport has had these problems before and has gone through harder times (the mob) survived and come out stronger, stop spouting nonsense from boxings enemies, yes we need to look at the problems facing our sport but incessantly saying its "dead" doesn't do any good and like i said, say it enough times and people will believe it, all it needs is cross over stars particularly a heavyweight, strength in depth and terestrial coverage to make those cross over stars, for people to grow up with them and follow their careers.
I agree, slip. The only people who say it is dying are the people who don't watch it. That said, although I'm not interested in UFC, I do still think boxing can learn a lot from it in terms of the way it's managed and promoted.
boxing isnt dying.its like it was before ali, leonard, tyson.people were losing interest in boxing before these guys came along.its gonna take a star to take boxing mainstream again.
you're spot on with regards to the promoting, i know why people especially the young can fall into this trap, they make 2 bums rolling around on the floor and looking like my nan after to much sherry at christmas when standing up like you're about to witness something sensational and exhilirating, don't see how people that have been watching boxing and had the pleasure to witness guys like sweet pea and some of the classics over the years can get aroused or stimulated by it though. promoters in boxing hardly promote anymore
The problem is the USA has no superstar fighter anymore hence doom and gloom over here. All it takes in 1 big name to emerge and then boxing will be in great shape again..
Well the overriding reason I highlighted the promotional side is I remember a few months back a bloke at college wearing a UFC hoody. Immediately I thought '**** me, they've got this spot on'. I mean, in boxing what is there that fans can relate to on a tangible or slogan-related level? I bet there is so much UFC merchandise out there- and let's face it, in a way it's free advertising. Contrast that to boxing and there really is nothing...
