I agree that some people go over the top about him sometimes like saying that no one even comes close to him and that no other fighter could even compare , I believe a peak Marvin Hagler, Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran would all have a great chance of beating him (especially Ray Leonard and Marvellous Marvin Hagler I believe could of beaten him on points, I think he'd of stopped Hearns late and outpointed Roberto but both would of given him very tough close fights) but he was a brilliant fighter and I am hugely impressed by his talent and he is defiantly a top 5 all time pound for pound great and a true boxing immortal.
Hearns and Leonard have legitimatechances of beating him at 147lbs, and Hagler can live with him at 160lbs, but Duran need not apply.
I'd settle for the reciprocal value of his talent. Don't start with telling me not to hi-jack threads, you know what time it is!
Look Robinson is one of the very best pound for pound fighters that ever lived and a tad overated. At welter he may have been number 1. At 154 possibly as well but not at middleweight. Especially after his comeback he was past his best and lost to fighters like Basilio and Fullmer who became legendary but were not all time top ten great middleweights. At 160 Robinson has his hands full with Greb, Monzon, Hagler and Hopkins in my book. I personally feel Sam Langford was better pound for pound and beats him at 160 as well. Imagine Ray fighting a better, faster even stronger LaMotta with one punch KO power in either hand ?
85-0 69 KO's as an amateur. 73-1-1 in his first 75 fights. The one by Lamotta avenged in that period. Never stopped 200 fights. Only losing 19 times. 16 coming after his first comeback at age 34. (Before his this he was 131-3-1-1 avenging the loses except the Maxim fight when he collapsed from the heat) Whats the problem? How many fighters could accomplish that. Definitely not Leonard, or Hearns. Could Hagler fight 200 times?
I think you are correct. If Muhammad's original name was Cassius Cobb, there is no doubt whatsoever that the majority would consider the greatest fighter ever to be Ruby Rob!
