I'm sick of the bashing of Max Baer

Love the guy. Jack Dempsey loved him thought he was the greatest guy. He was funny clowned around even in the ring long before Ali. Great clip of him on Milton Berle with Maxie Rosenbloom. Funny bit you can find online. But when people want to say Baer was a real good fighter and think he could compete with champions of the last 25 years sorry no. The Tysons Holyfields Lennox would murder him.

 

Honestly Baer could be quite the threat if he stopped pretending like he knew how to box and just went guns blazing. That combination of great power, durability and cardio isn’t all that common.

 

Agreed. He's one of the more interesting from that era aside from Louis IMO. Maybe not the most graceful guy on Earth, but he was durable and had tremendous power. The guns blazing approach should have been a constant with him. He could look really bad at times when he wasn't taking that approach though.

Baer's fight with Schmeling was probably my favorite of his. Baer absolutely knocked the dung out of him at the end of that. Brutal finish.
