Why is Collazo fighting for the interim WBC WW title when Berto just defended the main title yesterday? That sulaiman geezer is a joke!

    It's like this.....

Jackson Bonsu fought Carlos Baldomir in 08 i think... If Baldo won, he would fight for the WBC Belt... But in Bonsu won, he would have to fight in ANOTHER title eliminator... Turns out, Bonsu won... In comes Selcuk Aydin... Aydin ended up stopping Bonsu, which made Aydin a high ranking in the WBC...

While all this crap was going down, Collazo and Berto fought a good fight, the ending was dubious decision for the champ... Some might say, Collazo didn't get the fair shake..

Since Aydin's win, Berto's people never looked at fighting their easy mandatory (or HBO didn't seem interested in him) and instead fought Urango... Then just last night fought Carlos Quintana... Almost a year since he fought a mandatory fight....

    So what do you do~??

    Aydin/Collazo INTERIM BELT....

I'm getting sick of interim belts.... The difference between interim fights and title eliminators is that if the champ doesn't fight his mandatory, he gets stripped of his belt and the mandatory then fights the next available opponent... Interim, if the champ doesn't fight that guy, he's stripped and the interim champ becomes the full champ.. or fool champ... Then there are Super Champs, lineal champ, unified champs, WBF champs.... List goes on and on and on...

    But thats the point...

Isn't it basically because they can collect sanctioning fees?

Cmon man! Interims give fight fans something to watch. it's so hard when the champ only has to fight two times a year to get up for a fight! But if there is an ABC or a regional title on the line at least you can build the fight up involving titlists. gives it more prestige. The other option is, we could demand more activity from the fighters which is dangerous and would decrease their life in the sport.

Interims haven't done any good for fight fans, other then force boxers to fight boxers they don't need to fight. **** the ABC sanctioning bodies.

As for more activity, world class boxers should be at least fighting 3 times a year.

When it comes to hating interim belts, join the club.

It would help boxing if the new Ibo organization gets off the ground. Not the International Boxing Organization, the new one soon to come up, the Interim Boxing Organization, they'l have 5 interm champs per weight class, and 3 interim interim champs, that will help out.

In theory it's not the worst idea. You get guys sitting on titles from time to time denying proper challengers a shot at the title, or people who move up in weight and aren't clear if they are staying there or plan to return and defend the title, meanwhile challengers are forced to wait, so having an interim title fight for the event a champion won't fulfill his obligations makes sense. But this is boxing, and it's become a way to have 2 titles per body in each weightclass, and double up on fees. You see interim fights when the real champ has a defense coming up or has just had one.

I beleive the UFC had an interim champ while their heavyweight champ was in a contract dispute, and once it was resolved he came back to the organisation and fought the interim champ. That's the way it should be, done only in rare circumstances, not to gouge more money out of the sport.
