I'm sorry but the more i watch Calzaghe, the more i see weaknesses.

He throws a lot of his punches from the side. And he throws them with almost no regard to defense. He comes in with his hands down and just slaps left and rights. I still cannot believe why no one has simply lowered his head and come down the pipe with the lead right hand like Hopkins does to nullify this type of attack. Am i being stupid here? Am i missing something?

I mean i just see Hopkins making Calzaghe pay big time for all these openings. Maybe i'm an idiot. Maybe i have no idea what i'm talking about but i can't help but notice this. The guy simply fights like there is no one punching back sometimes. A guy like Hopkins will capitalize on this.

    Thoughts?

If he fought by the textbook he wouldn't have achieved half he has, it's not conventional but it works for him. He has taken big right hands many a time but none have stopped him yet.

You aren't looking closely at joe's feet. He only squares his shoulders up and fires w/ both hands when his opponent is on the backfoot. To set that up, he fires an accurate double and triple jab, or he feints effectively to get his opponent off timing then comes in. He's very good at it.
Listen, you've been listening to these calzaghe hating morons who know **** all about the science trolling this site.
Be smart. put your money on joe.
2 fighters you never bet against. mayweather and calzaghe.
    they'll both retire unbeaten!
    Bank it!

You're lying to yourself, trying to convince yourself that you aren't completely wrong and that Hopkins has a chance.

I see your points. And Kessler was at almost 50% with his power shots. But he's very conventional with the one two. Hopkins throws his lead right hand without the jab. It's sneaky. He throws it with incredible accuracy. He doesn't try to take a guy out with it but score. Or maybe to just stun a guy. But what i'm saying is that with the way Calzaghe throws punches from the side and leaves his hands down means the middle is wide open and a guy like Hopkins would capitalize on them.

Maybe i'm an idiot for thinking this way. :good

His hand and foot speed tend to allow him to do this

I can see that most Calzaghe fans are saying that Hopkins' lead right hand won't hurt him. And that might be the case. But like i said, i don't think Hopkins tries to KO a guy with his lead right hand. They are more of a jab/right hand hybrid in that accuracy is just as important as hurting his opponent. It's a very sneaky punch. He doesn't load up.

But even if Hopkins never hurts Calzaghe with this punch, i think it's his EFFECTIVENESS with this punch that could make Calzaghe very wary of just coming in. That's what i'm saying here. If Hopkins can make Calzaghe pay for his lack of defense time and time again, i don't think Calzaghe will be nearly as busy or willing to engage.

Calzaghe is 43-0, I think a lot of fighters have seen what you see, but a lot have not been able to figure Calzaghe out in the ring when they are actually in there. Saying and doing are different.
He does adapt and has left many of his opponents with nightmares in their fights. I dont think its as easy to beat Joe as above.
Cant wait for this fight :D

Thats what they dont get....most of us when bringing up the lead or counter right finding Calzaghe with regularity are not talking about knocking Joe out (tho a flash kd with the way Joe tends to fight off balance at times is NOT out of the question), its about it affecting Joe's workrate...the one thing that most people feel is his greatest advantage....yet everytime they talk about it, they talk about the power...not the accuracy, the timing on it or the fact that most never even see it coming.

Yeah, he has flaws like EVERY fighter. He overcomes them by his workrate, speed and angles. A true student of the game would pick them off, but Joe is smart too, he can adjust. Hopkins is the man to expose Joe's flaws. However, at 43 years of age, I'm kind of weary.

Hopkins will bring angles. Kessler was a sitting duck to those punches, Calzaghe is gonna get frustrated a bit with the style Hopkins brings to the table

I'm going to refrain from talking about this fight, but I will say this:

Come April 20th, Hopkins will have surprised a lot of people.

What perplexes me is some of these Calzaghe fanboys think Joe's workrate will stay the same or be better. Calzaghe's fighting at a NEW weight and is older then he's ever been. I think Joe will pick his punches more in this fight. WHich sounding like a good plan, isn't his fight.
