in defense all I can say is the hype of boxing has a "boy who cried wolf" effect to it.

in the sense that sure you can get people to tune in ONE time and purchase a $49 or $54 PPV.. but will they come back is the bigger question.

yeah you can not care the methods boxing uses to hype up events (UFC does it similar)

but watching boxing doesn't come cheap (mostly on PPV or Premium cable)

and I think your milking the Hopkins example I used way too much. I don't know or care how he was involved in hyping himself up as a "KO waiting to happen"

Lemme rephrase, my "friend" who was disappointed about the Hop/Wink fight is someone I occasionally talk with about boxing.

and the remark from his (already mentioned) was being disappointed about B-Hop not backing up his talk in stopping Wink.

and IMO he wouldn't have to go through the trouble of "researching Hopkins fights"

as after all all Hopkins did was SAY he was gonna KO Winky ... doesn't mean he'll actually do it.

the fact that he believed the hype, points more toward what Renyo said about casual fans being attracted to the "potential for a slugfest"

I blame it more on the fact that in the same way with the WWE, you get 2 Boxers to talk **** about how they hate each other, maybe pull a pre fight staredown turned into a brawl (Tyson-Lewis)

or even a brawl at a press conference (Vargas-Mayorga)

and the casual fans will gobble it up.

**not saying there's anything wrong with that, but again if I was thirteen I'd def tune in cuz these guys "hate" each other and it'll be one of the most violent fights of the year.
