I'm still a Kessler fan, although he did not look sharp last night. He shouldn't have followed Ward around the ring, which allowed Ward to counterpunch effectively. He should have let Ward come to him, and then use his jab and straight right hand much more. But Kessler needs to learn how to mix it up much more on the inside.
I'm soo glad this thread was made, he was my favorite fighter going into he bout and he's still my favorite fighter afterwards. He'll be back and now he's got something to prove!
I like Kessler and he's generally come across as an alright guy and a good boxer, but he had no answers whatsoever. When he wasn't following Ward around he was backing straight up and letting Ward chase him down and tag him. It's like he spent the whole fight looking for that one big punch to knock Ward down, and had no strategy other than that. Ward got really wild and undisciplined at times near the end of the fight and Kessler COULD have countered him and made him pay, but he didn't even try. He spent the whole fight looking like a guy who couldn't pull the trigger.
Nope, the time to beat him was the first time around. Dirrell and Ward were/are the most green of the super six. They will undoubtly show impovement as this goes on. They are not "topped out" like Kessler, Froch and Taylor. Guys we really view as a finshed product; having held belts, fought on a big stage and over 30 years of age. And even with that Kessler showed he NO advantages over Ward, with the exception that he moves really well in a straight line.
Its a super 6 tournamenet, I dont understand why people think a fighter is finished after once loss!!!
I'm still a huge fan, but I think Kessler might be damaged goods. I hope he can rebound from this, and motivate himself to reach the semis. Anything can happen from there on.
Kessler's finished, a broken man since Calzaghe took away his 0. Froch will mop up what Ward left behind.
Still a fan - but something new has to happens - he backed up trying to counter punch the faster boxer ...................again :think
That was indeed bazaar. However, I think the constant head butting and low blows had a lot to do with MK staying on the back foot so much.
